TRANSIT Malaysia - Audit PRASARANA's Assets To Improve Public Transport

Transit Malaysia, a local NGO run by a group of concerned citizens dedicated to representing public transportation users, recently expressed their dissatisfaction with a report by a local community, Malaysian Land Public Transport Fans (https://community.mlptf.org.my/spotting/2) highlighting that only 27 of the 58 trains scheduled to operate the MRT Kajang Line are currently operational.

Following that, Transit Malaysia extends their sympathy to passengers who are experiencing tremendous inconvenience and frustration. "We are concerned since the MRT Kajang line is very new and has only been operational for seven years," they further added.

In view of this scenario, Transit Malaysia requests that the Ministry of Transportation (MoT) conduct a thorough audit assessment of all PRASARANA rail and bus assets. This audit should identify the underlying causes of poor operating rates and rectify them as soon as possible to guarantee that public transportation stays dependable and efficient.

This audit will also help MoT identify the severe status of maintenance that has to be done and avert major breakdowns across the rail system, which could be the cause of the increasing breakdowns and low train frequency.

An audit would also enable the government to detect issues and invest in improvements or replacements for ageing assets. This would also assist to alleviate overcrowding issues and restore trust in the local public transit system.

Transit Malaysia also urges the MoT to address these concerns as soon as possible because the MRT Kajang Line is one of the most important rail lines in the Klang Valley, and any inefficiencies impact the experience of thousands of daily commuters who use the line to access work and social opportunities.
