Gordon Murray Automotive T.33 Spider Debuts – 607 HP V12, Six-Speed Manual

British boutique marque Gordon Murray Automotive (GMA) has expanded its line-up today by launching the all-new GMA T.33 Spider. And just like its coupe twin, the T.33 Spider also harnesses the same V12 engine, while featuring two removable roof panels instead of the conventional folding roof mechanism.

As mentioned earlier, the T.33 Spider employs the same Cosworth-built 3.9-litre nat-asp V12 mill as its fixed-roof counterpart. Mated with a six-speed manual gearbox, this powertrain setup delivers a total system output of 607 HP and 451 NM, and capable of revving all the way up to 11,000 RPM.

Though GMA has yet to unveil the official 0-100 KM/H sprint time for the T.33 Spider, we can expect a pretty fast one, considering that the car only tips the scale at 1,108 KG – barely breaking the one-tonne mark. Interestingly, this convertible only weighs 18 KG more than the coupe version, thanks to the fitment of aforementioned two removable roof panels, which are made of carbon composite.

Also helping the T.33 Spider shedding its weight is the addition of lightweight forged alloy wheels, coming with staggered 19- and 20-inch sizes, with each of them wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres. Hiding behind the wheels are the carbon ceramic brakes with massive six-piston monoblock callipers for the front, and four-piston monoblock for the rear – measured at 370 MM and 340 MM in diameter respectively.

Gordon Murray’s stellar Formula One (F1) design background truly shines on this T.33 Spider, as the car does not feature any aero parts like splitters, skirts, air ducts, and even wings. Instead, the car gains much of its downforce from GMA’s proprietary Passive Boundary Layer Control system that feeds air into an inlet at the front that moves the air to a rear diffuser.

On board, the T.33 Spider looks pretty much the same as its coupe twin. Crowning above the driver’s carbon fibre steering wheel is a large analog tachometer. This is complemented by two secondary screens that flanks the tachometer, each for the climate and infotainment controls, with the latter comes with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support.

Aside from the leather-wrapped carbon fibre steering wheels, the T.33 Spider also comes with carbon fibre sporty seats with leather and Alcantara trim. Elsewhere, the cabin is primed with a slew of aluminium alloy parts, like the gear shift lever, switchgear, as well as the foot pedals.

Adding a slight practicality edge to this convertible is the inclusion of the two 90-litre storage compartments on either side of the engine. In total, the T.33 Spider has up to 295-litre of storage space, with the bulk of them coming from the aforementioned engine storage compartments.

As for now, GMA only plans to build 100 examples of the T.33 Spider, with its pricing yet to be unveiled. For reference, its coupe twin, the T.33, commands a hefty launching price tag of £1.37 million (RM7.5 million approx.), which will surely skyrocketed in the auction market space.

GMA was founded by renowned F1 car designer Gordon Murray, who had experience working with numerous title-winning F1 outfits like Brabham and McLaren. More importantly, Murray also led the designing team that built the iconic McLaren F1 car.
