Volvo EX90 Excellence Debuts As A Four-Seater With Posher Equipment
The ongoing Auto Shanghai 2023 is getting its EV launch list expanded further as yet another new EV model hailing all the way from Scandinavia is set to make its global debut in China’s oldest and biggest auto show.
Yes, we’re talking about the all-new Volvo EX90 Excellence – a posher twin to its more ‘utilitarian’ three-row twin, which made its global debut late last year. What makes the EX90 Excellent a more luxurious option of the two is the fact that it comes with a four-seat layout, plus a bevy of equipment upgrades.
The third-row seat delete not only grants the EX90 Excellent with roomier cargo space, but also more cabin space to fit a much comfier four-seat layout. Wrapped in Nordico – a special wool blend made of recycled bottles – the two seats come standard with headrest pillow, plus better side bolstering to make these already plush seats more comfortable.
Splitting apart the two seats is a sizable central control that houses a compact fridge just like the one we saw on the Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV. Aside from that, it also comes with a control panel for the heat and massaging functions for the seats, as well as controls for the cabin’s ambient lighting system.
Should these features are not fancy enough for you, the wood-veneered central console also comes with a large Orrefors crystal that controls the fragrance dispenser.
Aside from the posh equipment, the EX90 Excellence is definitely not lacking on the safety front. Similar to the standard EX90, the Excellence model also comes with a slew of sensors, radars and cameras that all work in-tandem to feed drivers with essential safety information.
Speaking of information, the car’s 14.5-inch centre infotainment display carries a 5G connection that allows over-the-air (OTA) software updates to take place seamlessly, while also providing further assistance to the vehicle’s safety front.
For the exterior, Volvo decides to drape its new flagship SUV with two-tone paint schemes. While the rest of the exterior remains pretty much the same with its three-row twin, the EX90 Excellence rides on a set of 22-inch forged wheels with special spoke design that is optimised for better aerodynamics.
Underpinning the same SPA2 platform as its Polestar cousins, the EX90 Excellent rocks a dual electric motor setup that delivers a total system output of 496 HP and 910 NM – a bit shy off compared to the three-row EX90 Performance variant’s 510 HP and 910 NM power output.
Said dual motor setup comes with a novel torque vectoring function added to improve its all-wheel drive (AWD) capability. This setup is juiced by a 111-kWh battery pack, which is bigger than the standard EX90 battery (107-kWh). This, in turn, grants the EX90 Excellence with a claimed maximum travel range of 650 KM.
Aside from hosting the all-new Volvo EX90 Excellence global launch, China will also be the first in line to get this new four-seater EV SUV, which will cater the demand for chauffeur-driven cars in the People’s Republic.
With its production set to take place later in Q4 2023 in both China and the US, the EX90 will probably begin deliveries in early 2024 for the Chinese market, while coming much later for the rest of the world.
