L-R: Limited-run G500 V8 Final Edition and G63 AMG Grand Edition are the latest specials based on the popular and much-loved W643 G-Class.
The much-loved and popular W463 generation Mercedes-Benz G-Class SUV sees its line-up added with two new limited-run special editions this week. They are the G500 V8 Final Edition, followed by the G63 AMG Grand Edition.
Special colours plus Final Edition badging and 20-inch wheels sets this special apart from the
base G-Class.
As its name suggests, the G500 V8 Final Edition special stands as a swansong for V8-powered non-AMG performance variant of the G-Class. Moving forward, succeeding version of the G500 – as well as its US-only G550 equivalent – will likely see a new 6-cyl powertrain replacing its signature V8 mill.
Much of this special’s aesthetics are inspired by the first V8-powered G-Class, the 500 GE, which debuted in 1993. Whilst said 1993 original’s V8 delivered just 237 HP, this latest special’s V8 has evolved much since, even packing turbochargers to bring its total output up to 416 HP.
Other special touches include a commemorative key fob plaque, and striking dual-tone Manufaktur leather upholstery in the cabin.
This special is available in metallic obsidian black, Manufaktur opalith white magno or Manufaktur olive magno paint options, each of the options being limited to 500 units, thus bringing this special’s run to a total of just 1,500 units.
Body hues aside, all will also roll on double-five-spoke 20-inch wheels whilst sporting ‘Final Edition’ badges on the rubbing strips, door sills, passenger grab handle, and spare wheel cover. It also sees the base of each door mirror project the message “Stronger Than Time” onto the ground when parked.
Just 1,500 units of the G500 V8 Final Edition will be built by Mercedes-Benz.
Matching the latter is a special keyfob featuring a silver coin that serves as a special edition plaque. Other key features present include a Burmester h-ifi, as well as Active Multicontour Seats, headliner, luggage space and seat switch panel upholstered in two-tone Manufaktur leather.
In Germany, the G500 V8 Final Edition commands a base price figure of €196,350 (approx. RM 996,605), marking a sizeable hike over the base G500 model’s starting price of €130,204 (approx. RM 660,871), as well as the regular G63 AMG’s €187,247 (approx. RM 950,401) figure.
Limited-run G63 AMG Grand Edition is easy to denote thanks to its sole black hue and striking gold accents.
Speaking of the latter AMG-built performance variant, the other special based on which revealed alongside the G500 V8 Final Edition commands both a higher price tag plus status as the rarer of the two with just 1,000 units planned.
All comes dressed exclusively in Manufaktur night black magno hue with gold graphics. It also rolls on 22-inch centre-lock forged AMG wheels finished in gold. The front and rear bumper inserts, front skid plate, as well as the spare wheel ring, are all treated with a gold finishing too.
Contrasting gold-finished treatment is applied in the bumpers, 22-inch centre-lock wheels, as well as the door graphics and spare wheel cover.
The gold treatment continues on board with various interior details including the pipe-stitching in the seats. Nappa leather is the main upholstery for the seats and roof grab handles, while the passenger handle in the dash sports a carbon inlay with a “Grand Edition” logo. Included with each sale too is a breathable indoor car cover.
Mechanically, the G63 AMG Grand Edition to offer its signature 4.0-litre V8 twin-turbo heart that’s handbuilt by Mercedes-AMG. Output figures read at 577 HP and 850 NM, thus allowing this SUV to command sportscar-shaming 0-100 KM/H sprints in just 4.2 seconds.
Gold accents continue on board in various details to contrast with the Nappa leather upholstery and
Grand Edition' logos.
In Germany, this special commands a starting price of €228,896.40 (approx. RM 1,161,799.12). Notably, Mercedes has confirmed that Mercedes-AMG G63 AMG performance guise of the G-Class model will remain a mainstay in the upcoming new generation G-Class model.
