- Next-Gen Kia K3 Sedan Debuts with EV9-Inspired Look
All-new 2024 Kia K3 compact sedan
Just when you thought SUVs are reigning supreme in today’s market climate, it seems like some marques are still daring to come out with new saloon models, offering distinct styling as part of its strategies to sway customers away from the tall-riding variants.
One of said marques is Korean automotive giant Kia, who recently ushered in the next-gen Kia K3 model as its latest fighter in the compact sedan segment. Similar to other new Kia models, the K3 features the marque’s latest design language, making it look somewhat similar to its flagship EV SUV model, the Kia EV9.
Aside from the EV9-inspired ‘Tiger Nose’ front fascia, the K3 also features several crossover-inspired design cues, notably its flat black-finished underbody cladding that matches well with its fastback-style silhouette.
At the rear, the K3’s tailgate is primed with an integrated ducktail-style rear spoiler that blends in with its full-width LED taillight bar. Another crossover-esque element present here is the lower bumper accent with faux skid plate and rear diffuser.
Opting for the range-topping GT-Line variant, on the other hand, adds several sporty touches to this fastback sedan, including the larger 17-inch alloy wheels and two exhaust tips at the rear.
On board, the K3 gets an equally stylish cabin design, adopting the same minimalistic approach we saw on several Kia EV models. Drivers will get a EV6-style dual-spoke leather steering wheel plus a dual screen layout featuring driver’s digital instrument cluster and a sizable 10.25-inch central infotainment display with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
Other highlights include the dual-zone auto climate control with dedicated rear air vents, a 64-colour ambient lighting system, as well as USB-C ports for front and rear passengers. Meanwhile, the K3 boasts a respectable boot space with a capacity of 544-litre.
In several markets, the K3 will come standard with a slew of active safety features and driver assistance functions like Front Collision-Avoidance Assist, Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist, Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist, and Lane Keeping Assist. Other safety equipment like six airbags, ABS with EBD, traction (TCS) and stability (ESC) controls are also available as default.
Powering the standard Kia K3 model is a 1.6-litre 4-cyl nat-asp mill that outputs 121 HP, which is paired to either a six-speed automatic or manual transmissions. Should you need more beans, then the K3 GT-Line variant comes with a peppier 2.0-litre 4-cyl mill rated at 150 HP. However, the GT variant only comes with a six-speed auto gearbox with paddle shifters.
Aside from these two powertrain options, Kia also plans to offer a smaller 1.4-litre variant to several international markets. However, the Korean automaker has yet to unveil where it will be offered. Powertrains and new design aside, the next-gen K3 also comes with a redesigned suspension system that offers “an excellent balance between comfort and control,” Kia claims.
The all-new 2024 Kia K3 will be manufactured in the marque’s Mexico production facility located in Nuevo Leon, which will be exported to “selected markets” starting from Q4 this year. Details on launch dates and variants offered in each country will be announced later on.
So folks, what do you think of the new Kia K3? Keen to see our local Kia importer Dinamikjaya (Bermaz) bringing this new fastback sedan model into our market? As always, don’t forget to leave your thoughts in the comments down below…
