A viral photo allegedly indicating the Neta V has gotten a 'revised' RM79,800 price tag. This turned out not to be true according to distributors Intro Synergy. (Image source: Facebook)

Earlier this week, a photo alleging that the Neta V compact EV crossover being offered at a new price of RM79,800 has gone viral on social media. Said photo, snapped at a shopping mall roadshow presumably held by dealer, has sparked plenty of questions amongst EV enthusiasts and observers alike.

While this might sound tempting and perhaps make the Neta V the most affordable EV on sale in Malaysia, brand distributors Intro Synergy (a subsidiary of Go Auto) has stepped up online to firstly deny the photographed price’s accuracy, and secondly to clarify things better.

Distributors first previewed the Neta V during the Malaysia Autoshow 2023 earlier this year with an initial
price of RM99,800.

Firstly, Intro Synergy’s denial stems from the government’s current restrictions on selling fully imported (CBU) EVs below RM100,000. The firm notes that the initially previewed price of RM99,800 on-the-road sans insurance for said model remains unchanged.

That said, Intro Synergy did offer a sizable RM10,000 rebate for thefirst 100 pre-orders placed during said preview held at the Malaysia Autoshow 2023 earlier this year. This effectively brought the purchase price down to RM89,900. How the viral photo’s allegedly slashes a further RM10,000 from that remains unclear.

Key equipment on board included a 14.6-inch touchscreen infotainment, a host of ADAS features, plus both AC and DC charging inputs for the CATL-sourced 38.5 kWh battery.

Nevertheless, we’ve spoken directly with a source within Intro Synergy itself today for a clearer picture too. According to our insider, whilst the initial RM99,800 price remains unchanged, the firm and its dealers are offering various incentives to better tempt more buyers.

Beyond the RM10,000 rebate for the initial 100 pre-orders, Intro Synergy is also offering “sizable” cash rebates to other buyers after which, though our source did not specify any rates of figures for this. Besides that, the firm and its dealers also offer 0% down-payment plus full (100%) financing schemes too.

Theoretically, whilst a combination of either could see a reduction in the nett sale price, we highly doubt any of which could slash the Neta V’s original selling price by much. Realistically, we can’t see how the Neta V can be priced any lower than RM85,000 given current market circumstances and legislation.

Even at that guestimate figure of ours, it theoretically should keep the Neta V a tempting entry-level EV proposition, even against the recently launched BYD Dolphin EV hatchback which starts from RM100,530 on-the-road sans insurance.

Presently, the two most affordable EVs on sale Malaysia are the Neta V (left) crossover priced at RM99,800, and the recently launched BYD Dolphin hatch priced from RM100,530.

To refresh your memory, the Neta V is positioned as an entry-level EV urban mobility solution. It features a front-mounted motor driving the front wheels with 127 HP and 160 NM. Juicing said motor is a CATL-sourced 38.5 kWh battery that accepts both AC and DC charging inputs too.

On board, the Neta V is primed with a 14.6-inch touchscreen infotainment touchscreen unit plus a host of active driver assist (ADAS) features as standard equipment. More recently, the model has undergone a mid-cycle refresh in China where it is now known as the Neta Aya – click here for more details of which.

Presently, it remains unclear if said refreshed and upgraded iteration of the Neta V will enter our market just yet.
