Sri Petaling LRT Line Will Resume Operations On 29 February

Rapid KL has announced that repairs to specific stations along the Sri Petaling LRT line will be completed by the end of February 2024.

According to its post, the route from Masjid Jamek to Bandaraya will reopen on February 29 if the repairs pass their tests and are approved by authorities.

The Ampang and Sri Petaling LRT lines were severely disrupted due to structural damage discovered on the track near the Bandaraya station. This resulted in the service for three stations — Bandaraya, Masjid Jamek, and Plaza Rakyat — being altered for passenger safety while repairs were made.

To travel between this stretch of affected stations, passengers heading towards Sentul Timur had to disembark at Hang Tuah and transfer to a shuttle train operating at a lower frequency as part of the alternative service. Naturally, this made it more difficult for people who needed to go from Masjid Jamek to the Kelana Jaya line. p9s1_02_LRT_Muhd-Amin-(1).jpg

Anthony Loke, the minister of transportation, stated in February 2023 that it will require eight months to finish the extensive repairs to the track and the surrounding structures. However, operator Rapid Rail revealed back in September that the repair completion window was being extended to February of 2024 due to the discovery of additional damages in nearby viaduct structures.
