- Proton Delivers 12,882 Cars In January, Best Start To Year Since 2013
Proton Holdings Bhd had its best start to a year since 2013, delivering 12,882 units (both domestic and export) in January. The national carmaker emerged as the sole automaker to record better sales figures compared to December 2023, up 1.3%, while overall sales increased by 10.3% over January of the previous year.
Proton's market share is predicted to be 19.5% for the month, up 3.3% from the previous month. The carmaker stated that the total industry volume (TIV) for January is predicted to be 66,134 units, which would represent a decrease of 15.6% from December, when the figures were inflated by the customary year-end push for higher vehicle sales to close 2023.
Meanwhile, deliveries of the Proton S70 have begun, with an impressive 1,442 units delivered in January. Proton stated that the model is currently receiving massive bookings of over 8,000, demonstrating the strong and positive response it has received from customers.
"The model S70 also made its way to its first export market in Brunei, as 15 units were delivered ahead of its official launch there in February," it said.
Proton X50 on the other hand, maintained its position as the industry leader in the B-segment SUV market with2,002 units sold in January. In a similar vein, the Proton Persona led B-segment sedan sales to start the year with 1,846 sold. With 365 sales in January, it appears that the Proton X90, which tops the range, is still the market leader in the D-segment SUV segment.
Proton also sold 203 Proton Exora units, 6,129 Proton Saga units, and 523 and 372 Iris and Proton X70 units, respectively.
Roslan Abdullah, CEO of Proton Edar, stated that the company is excited to start 2024 on a strong footing, as evidenced by strong delivery numbers for its most recent addition, the Proton S70.
He said the enthusiastic response to the company's lineup demonstrates how its models appeal to buyers looking for innovative vehicles.
"Rest assured, we are fully dedicated to meeting the heightened demand from our customers, and the team is diligently working to ensure timely deliveries to ensure customer expectations are not only met but exceeded," he added.
