Chief Executive Officer of Malaysia Rail Link Sdn Bhd (MRL), Darwis Abdul Razak, stated that the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) has made 62.4% progress. According to Bernama, the project's Kelantan phase is currently 75.8% complete.
“The 43km ECRL alignment in Kelantan involves the construction of two stations, Kota Bharu for passengers only and Pasir Puteh Station for passengers and cargo.
The alignment from Kota Bharu to the integrated transport terminal in Gombak, Selangor, is expected to be completed on time in December 2026, with services beginning in January 2027. Meanwhile, the ECRL alignment from Gombak to Port Klang is scheduled to be completed by December 2027, Darwis added.
To recap, the ECRL project is a 665-kilometer, RM50.3 billion rail network that connects the east and west coasts, specifically Kota Bharu in Kelantan and Gombak (Selangor). The travel time between these points is expected to be reduced to four hours from the current seven-hour road journey, or more than 12 hours during the holiday season.
