The East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) has reached 88% overall progress following the completion of the C1B Segment, a key stretch connecting the Genting Tunnel exit to the Gombak Integrated Terminal.

Construction of the segment began in September 2022 and covers the Gombak Tunnel, two bridges, and major subgrade works linking the East and West Coast sections of the 665km rail network.

With this, progress in Selangor now stands at about 77%.

“This milestone is not merely about completing a section of track, it’s about fulfilling a national aspiration to connect people, economies and opportunities between the East Coast and the Klang Valley,” said Malaysia Rail Link (MRL) CEO Datuk Seri Darwis Abdul Razak.

China Communications Construction (ECRL) Sdn Bhd (CCCECRL) managing director Deng Bo said the C1B Segment was among the most challenging parts of the Selangor alignment due to complex geological conditions and limited working space near major highways.

“The segment’s location near a major transportation hub and crossing key highways further added to the engineering and logistical challenges,” he stated.

The team used advanced engineering tools such as structural simulations, modular prefabrication and digital precision systems to ensure safety and efficiency.

The C1B completion paves the way for the next phase which are track laying, system installation and testing as the project moves toward full completion by end-2026.
