The second-gen GAC Aion V recently made its global debut at the 2024 Beijing International Automotive Exhibition.

The 2024 Beijing International Automotive Exhibition has witnessed several new models and concepts making their inaugural global debuts. Silently making its global debut in the midst of renowned European brands is the new, second-gen GAC Aion V electric SUV.

For its latest iteration, Aion designers have taken the prehistoric route in drafting the new Aion V, with said EV SUV featuring design cues inspired by the Tyrannosaurus Rex dinosaur, also popularly known as T-Rex. Key design highlights include the dual-claw LED lights on both ends and muscular and chiselled fenders, all presented in a conventional, boxy SUV body style.

Similar to its predecessor, the second-gen Aion V is a C-segment EV SUV with a five-seater layout.

Riding on the marque’s latest AEP modular architecture, the new Aion V measures 4,605 MM long and has a wheelbase that spans 2,755 MM. This slots the Aion V perfectly in the C-SUV vehicle segment, with said model poised to compete against the likes of the Nissan Ariya in selected markets.

More importantly, this new platform also allows the new Aion V to carry a larger battery pack as well as a liquid cooling system for its 181 HP-rated single electric motor setup. Although GAC Aion did not specify its capacity, the CATL-sourced battery pack is good enough to grant the Aion V up to 750 KM of CLTC range while being able to withstand temperatures ranging from -30°C to 55°C.

Despite underpinning a 400-volt battery architecture, GAC claims that a 15-minute DC charge is enough to grant the new Aion V with up to 340 KM of EV range.

As of now, GAC has yet to reveal the interior of the new Aion V, which promises to be laden with tech and boast some decent degree of practicality with a standard two-row, five-seater layout. Thanks to its fully foldable seats and the built-in refrigerator, the Aion V is a pretty ideal camping EV SUV.

There's a high chance that we might be seeing the new GAC Aion V make its debut into our market.

The all-new, second-gen GAC Aion V is set to go on sale in its native Chinese market later in July this year, followed by other international markets in the near future. With the brand currently present in key ASEAN markets like Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia, there’s a big chance that we might see this new C-segment EV SUV making its way into our market.

So folks, what do you think of the second-gen GAC Aion V? Keen to see this new EV SUV going against the likes of the Neta X in our local market? As always, don’t forget to leave your thoughts in the comments down below…
