GAC officially launched its new smart factory in Jakarta, Indonesia. The grand opening was attended by key executives from GAC International and GAC AION, along with representatives from the Indomobil Group, who witnessed the first vehicle,  an AION V roll off the assembly line.

This new smart facility, dubbed a modern “Lighthouse Factory,” is part of GAC’s broader expansion into the region under its “One GAC 2.0” global strategy. During the event, the company also unveiled its Indonesia Action Plan, themed “Ignite the Lighthouse, Driving the Future.”

The plan focuses on six core areas: product, channel, service, smart manufacturing, energy ecosystem, and mobility ecosystem. Together, these pillars form a long-term strategy aimed at sustainable, localised growth across the ASEAN region.

The factory plays a central role in GAC’s ambitions in Indonesia. Built on a “small scale, fast output and phased development” philosophy, it features the company’s latest NEV (New Energy Vehicle) production technologies.

The plant also achieves 100% interconnectivity of production data, enabling enhanced efficiency and consistent product quality.

GAC says the facility reflects its commitment to green, smart manufacturing. Key features include a flexible multi-model production line, end-to-end quality assurance, and advanced safety systems for batteries and high-voltage components.

GAC leadership also emphasised that Indonesia is more than just a domestic market as it will serve as a strategic hub for exports and regional NEV leadership. The transition from “going out” to truly “integrating in” reflects the group’s long-term commitment to internationalisation and sustainable mobility.

In Malaysia, GAC’s electrified offerings are currently limited to the AION Y Plus and AION ES, priced from RM119,800 and RM106,800 respectively. However, during the recent Malaysia Auto Show 2025, local distributor Warisan TC Automotif (WTCA) previewed the AION V, which is slated for launch in Q3 this year.

The upcoming model will likely be positioned to compete directly with the Proton e.MAS 7 and BYD Atto 3, signaling GAC’s intent to strengthen its foothold in the Malaysian EV market.

The question now is, with the AION V now rolling off the line in Jakarta, will the Malaysian-bound AION V be assembled at the new Indonesian plant?
