- WCE: 29.5 KM Tanjong Karang-Assam Jawa Section is 71% Complete.
According to Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, the Tanjong Karang-Assam Java section of the West Coast Expressway (WCE) has reached 71% completion and is scheduled to be completed by March 2026.
This stretch runs 29.5 KM and is separated into two sections: Section 7A and Section 7B.
"Section 7A covers the stretch from Assam Java Interchange to Sungai Terap Farm, totaling 19.5 KM, while Section 7B extends from Sungai Terap Farm to Tanjong Karang Interchange, covering 10 KM," said Nanta. "As of April, Section 7A is 91% complete, and Section 7B is at 44%."
Speaking to reporters after inspecting the project's progress, Nanta stated that the new route will reduce traffic congestion, especially on weekends and during the holiday season.
Once completed, this segment is expected to save up to an hour of travel time compared to the present federal road. It’s also tipped to reduce traffic density on the North-South Highway by offering an alternate route.
Nanta also acknowledged the difficulties in constructing these sections due to the soft soil structure, which necessitated tiered reclamation operations. However, he expressed optimism that the project will be finished on time.
