- ECRL Kelantan LIne 87.8% Complete, On Track for 2026 Completion
Malaysia Rail Link (MRL) CEO Datuk Seri Darwis Abdul Razak announced that the 400 KM East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) track installation from Maran, Pahang, to Kota Bharu, Kelantan, has been completed ahead of schedule by two and a half months.
For the first time in Malaysia, the CCPG-500A track-laying machine was used to lay 206 KM of tracks from Dungun, Terengganu, to Kota Bharu, Kelantan. The machine successfully completed its work at Kota Bharu Station, which will also serve as the starting point of the ECRL line.
As of Dec 2024, the ECRL project in Kelantan is 87.8% complete. This progress will help speed up the installation of electrification, signaling, and telecommunications for the remaining 43.86KM stretch in the state.
The Kelantan section includes two stations: Kota Bharu Station (for passengers) and Pasir Puteh Station (for both passengers and cargo). Both stations are expected to be completed by the second quarter of 2026.
The full 665KM ECRL line will connect Kelantan, Terengganu, and Pahang on the East Coast to Selangor on the West Coast. The project is expected to be finished by Dec 2026, with operations starting in Jan 2027. Once complete, this line is expected to boost regional economic growth and transform Malaysia’s rail network.
On ticket prices, Darwis assured that fares will be affordable, with more details to be announced by the Transport Ministry.
