Both Penang Bridges Temporarily Closed for Fellowship Ride 2024 - 28 July
Both the main Penang Bridge and the Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah Second Bridge will be temporarily closed on July 28. This closure will facilitate the Penang Fellowship Ride Bridge to Bridge 2024 cycling event.
Daniel Gooi, Chairman of the Penang State Youth and Sports Committee, announced that the Penang Bridge (connecting the Island to Prai) will be inaccessible from 6:30AM to 9:00AM. Following this, the Second Bridge (from Batu Kawan to the Island) will be closed from 9:00AM to 12:00PM.
He further added that the Penang Fellowship Ride will commence and conclude at the Tapak Pesta Sungai Nibong. In light of which, various roads along the route will also face closures in stages to ensure the smooth running of the event.
Cyclists will embark on a journey across the Penang Bridge, traverse Juru Industrial Road, and head towards Batu Kawan before returning to Tapak Pesta Sungai Nibong via the Second Bridge and Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu highway.
With 2,343 participants registered, the event is set to be flagged off by Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak, who will also join the 66 km ride, continuing his tradition of participation from last year.
This event offers cyclists a rare opportunity to ride across both of Penang’s iconic bridges, highlighting the state’s impressive infrastructure while promoting health and community engagement.
Motorists are advised to plan their travels with the temporary bridge closures and potential traffic diversions in mind.
