National automaker Proton officially launched its face-lifted 2025 Proton X70 SUV in East Malaysia earlier today. The official launch was held in the Sabah state capital of Kota Kinabalu and saw both CEO Dr Li Chunrong and Deputy CEO Roslan Abdullah in attendance.

Just like in Peninsular Malaysia, Proton is offering the refreshed 2025MY X70 across the same four variants for East Malaysia buyers – Standard, Executive, Premium and Premium X. All also share the same 1.5-litre TGDi 3-cyl turbocharged petrol mill and 7-speed DCT automatic box pairing.

The recently refreshed 2025 Proton X70 launched in Peninsular Malaysia earlier this month was officially launched for East Malaysia earlier today with a marginally higher starting price of RM100,800.

All specifications remains unchanged for East Malaysia across all four variants too, the only difference here being the marginally higher pricing – a typical norm with most goods (officially imported new vehicles included) marketed and sold in East Malaysia.

For East Malaysia, the 2025 Proton X70 is priced at:

At a glance, it’s easy to deduce that the all variants of the 2025 Proton X70 only costs RM2,000 more in East Malaysia compared to its Peninsular Malaysia prices. Despite this marginal price hike, Proton touts that the refreshed 2025MY model still offers East Malaysian buyers with a total of savings of up to RM23,500 compared to the outgoing model.

The latter was empahsised by CEO Dr Li Chunrong who highlighted the new 2025MY model’s value-added features worth RM13,700. On top of which comes the national automaker’s early bird offer of cash rebates of up to RM7,000 and trade-in overtrade support worth up to RM2,800 for purchases of the 2025 Proton X70.

CEO Dr Li Chunrong emphasises that East Malaysia buyers still enjoy up to RM23,500 in savings with the new 2025MY X70 over the outgoing model, especially with the early bird special package factored in.

However, take note that the latter two are limited to the first 3,000 customers. Additionally, the special early bird package mentioned also includes the Upgraded Proton Insurance Programme coverage.

All of which comes on top of the standard after-sales package that consists of a 5-year unlimited mileage warranty, 6-times free labour service, 5-year complimentary data package capped at 1GB monthly,  financing interest rates from as low as 2.4% per annum, as well as the inclusion of the standard Proton Insurance Programme.

With the arrival of the 2025 Proton X70 in East Malaysia, Proton is posed to see continued sales growth in the region as well. Presently, the national automaker’s network across East Malaysia boasts a combined total of 20 3S/4S dealerships.

Since 2018 up until year-to-date July 2024, Proton revealed that its collective sales across East Malaysia has grown by 151% with 10,159 units shifted. Additionally, its market share in the region also grew by 15% to 24% now.

Between the two states, Sabah stands as the strongest market amongst the two for Proton as sales here in the timeframe noted prior has grown by a staggering 214% from 3,093 units to 9,697 units. Proton’s monthly sales in Sabah sees an average total around 1,000 units, and it’s led by the Saga entry-level sedan model.
