Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) and Express Rail Link Sdn Bhd (ERL) have launched an integrated ticketing system aimed at encouraging greater use of rail services as public transport.

The system’s launch, held earlier today at the KLIA Ekspres Arrival Hall, KL Sentral, saw YB Datuk Haji Hasbi Habibollah, Deputy Minister of Transport, alongside YB Datuk Mohd Rani Hisham Samsudin, Group CEO of KTMB, and YBrs. Puan Noormah Mohd Noor, CEO of ERL, in attendance.

Building on a partnership established in Aug 2022, the integrated ticketing system is now available via KTMB’s Integrated Ticketing System (KITS) and ERL’s website, starting July 19, 2024.

“This collaboration offers passengers a more seamless, faster, and flexible travel experience by allowing them to book tickets from any KTMB station to the airport in a single transaction through the KITS app. It is particularly beneficial for international travellers who can now travel by rail directly from the airport to their final destination,” said Datuk Mohd Rani.

Puan Noormah further highlighted the broader benefits of this collaboration, stating, “This partnership expands our market reach and increases awareness of the integrated ticketing system.”

For a start, the focus will be on five high-traffic KTMB stations: Alor Setar, Sungai Petani, Butterworth, Bukit Mertajam, and Ipoh. However, more stations will be added in the future, which includes Pulau Sebang (Melaka), Segamat, Gemas, and Johor Bahru.”

As of Aug 2024, the collaboration has sold 1,327 tickets across both platforms. Of these, 958 were for integrated journeys, while 369 were for single services. Furthermore, to encourage transactions, KTMB is offering a RM5 discount on KLIA Ekspres tickets from today until September 19, 2024.

Both KTMB and ERL will closely monitor the system's performance and continue refining their strategies to enhance public transportation, ensuring it remains the preferred choice for commuters.
