679299.jpg Kia Corporation recently announced the development of the world's first car accessory made from plastic extracted from The Ocean Cleanup's Great Pacific Garbage Patch (GPGP).
The Korean automaker highlights that this accomplishment is a crucial step toward sustainability and innovation by pointing out that it is a result of their long-term collaboration with The Ocean Cleanup, a nonprofit dedicated to clearing plastic debris from the world's oceans. kia-ev3-001.jpg
Specifically created for the Kia EV3, the accessory is the first of its kind, composed of 40% recycled ocean plastic collected by The Ocean Cleanup. Designed with Kia's "Opposites United" philosophy in mind, it features a geometric wave pattern that symbolizes the collection of marine debris.
Kia however, has goals bigger than this project. As part of its broader objective of developing a circular resource system, the company wants to see more than 20% of its cars made of recycled plastic by 2030.

For example, the EV9 already uses recycled materials like plastic bottles and fishnets, highlighting Kia's leadership in environmentally friendly transportation. With this innovation, Kia is taking a step towards its vision of becoming a leader in sustainable mobility solutions and ushering in a new era of environmentally conscious design and useful automotive solutions.
