The Works Ministry (KKR) is reportedly seeking a budget allocation amounting to RM20 million to construct Rest and Relax (R&R) spaces along the Lingkaran Tengah Utama (LTU) Highway - also known as the Central Spine Road.

This comes after the Sultan of Pahang urged the Federal Government to examine developing these facilities to address roadside waste and sanitation issues, particularly during the festival season, due to a lack of bathroom facilities on the highway.

Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan, Deputy Works Minister, said that the funds requested will be utilised to build essential amenities such as stores, bathrooms and prayer rooms in strategic areas along both sides of the highway.

Ahmad Maslan revealed that a site has already been identified, and he expressed confidence in the approval of the allocation from the federal government. He added that the project had previously been opened to private investors, but there were no takers due to concerns over its profitability due to last of traffic with exception to during holiday season.

The LTU Highway, which connects Peninsular Malaysia's central and northern regions, was originally planned to include R&R facilities. However, due to rising building expenses, the project was halted, leaving only the basic infrastructure in place.

This development will surely address the Sultan's request, with the expectation that the facilities will be completed soon for the benefit of road users.
