Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia (MMM) officially introduced the new third-gen Triton pick-up truck for the local market earlier today.

At long last, the new latest-generation Mitsubishi Triton pick-up truck has officially launched itself earlier today. Whilst this is the third iteration to bear the Triton nameplate, it is in fact the sixth generation iteration of the Japanese tri-diamond marque’s staple mid-sized pick-up truck offering.

As reported, Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia (MMM) had opened up the order books for the new Triton earlier this month, revealing then that it will offer no less than five variants too. A notable new addition here is a new single-cab variant, which marks its return after a hiatus of over a decade.

That aside, all other variants arrive in double-cab (or crew cab, if you prefer said American vernacular) forms. As for prices, it ranges between RM101,980 and RM165,980 in Peninsular Malaysia at least. You can see the full price list in the image provided below.

Take note that only the range-topping Triton Athlete variant benefits with a 5-year, unlimited mileage warranty, albeit offered only for units booked before Dec 31, 2024. All other variants get a 5-year or 200,000 KM warranty coverage instead, which isn’t too shabby to say the least.

Moreover, MMM is also offering earlybirds – the first 500 customers – who book the new Triton via its Mitsubishi Online Showroom with an exclusive reward in the form of a 60-litre folding storage box worth RM450 each.

We’ve detailed the latest-gen Triton at length since it first debuted globally in Thailand last year, but here’s a quick refresher. In its latest form, the Triton has grown slightly in size, and it definitely has evolved with a bolder new ‘Beast Mode’  styling,  the latter explaining its distinct new look and stance.

Underneath, the new Triton underpins a highly improved new ladderframe chassis that’s been strengthened further. Mechanically, the Japanese tri-diamond marque also developed a new 4N16 ‘Hyperpower’ 2.4-litre turbo-diesel 4-cyl mill plonked up front.

Said new mill sees four different output specifications based on variant, but peaks at 204 PS and 470 NM in the Triton Athlete range-topper. In this flagship variant, said mill’s peak outputs were enabled through a new ‘two-stage’ turbocharger unit as well.

The Athlete aside, all other variants – single-cab included – see their mills boast respectable peak output figures of 184 PS and 430 NM. Depending on variant, said mills are paired with either an improved six-speed manual box with reduced vibration, or a familiar six-speed automatic box boasting a ‘Sports’ mode.

As for the driveline, all variants barring the Athlete harness the marque’s renowned Easy Select 4WD system. Only the Athlete range-topper benefits with a new and improved Super Select 4WD-II system that offers four selectable locking modes – 2H, 4H, 4HLc and 4LLC.

Through the new Super Select 4WD-II suite, the Triton also boasts seven selectable drive and terrain modes that enhances this range-topping Triton’s versatility and off-road abilities. Adding to which is the added presence of an Active Yaw Control (AYC) for improved cornering too.

As for safety, the range-topper once again leads things as it comes laced with the Mitsubishi Motors Safety Sensing (MMSS) suite. Through which, it brings a slew of ADAS features such as Forward Collision Mitigation (FCM), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Blind Spot Warning with Lane Change Assist, as well as Rear Cross Traffic Alert, amongst many.

We’ll have more on the Triton Athlete from an upcoming First Drive report. In the meantime, what do you folks think of the new Triton then? Share your thoughts in the comments below…
