- MG5 Fastback Set For Oct 3 Launch With RM100,000 Est. Price
The new MG5 previewed by SAIC Motor Malaysia back in Aug this year is set to officially launch later this week on Oct 3.
The local B-segment saloon space is set to welcome a new contender this week in the form of the new MG5. In fact, brand principals SAIC Motor Malaysia took to social media recently and confirmed the model’s Thursday, Oct 3 launch date.
Additionally, the firm will be streaming the launch event live via Facebook, and details for which are available now via its dedicated Facebook event page.
As a refresher, SAIC Motor Malaysia had previewed the new MG5 back in Aug this year alongside its upcoming MG HS C-segment crossover SUV entry, as well as the radical MG Cyberster all-electric roadster. During which, the firm had noted an estimated price of RM100,000 for the MG5.
Sitting 4,675 MM long with a 2,680 MM wheelbase, 1,842 MM wide and 14,80 MM tall, the MG5 is being billed as the longest and widest B-segment sedan to enter the local marketspace. Matching that too is the sleek exterior styling it rocks.
When it launches this week, the MG5 is set on becoming the longest and widest B-segment saloon on sale in Malaysia.
As recounted in our initial preview report, key design touches include all-LED head- and taillights, distinct 17-inch ‘Tomahawk’ alloy wheels, not forgetting its unmistakably sharp coupe-like fastback styling and silhouette.
Underneath, the MG5 is set adopt a 1.6-litre naturally aspirated 4-cyl petrol heart outputting 114 PS and 150 NM. Drive goes to the front wheels via the MG brand’s proprietary 8-speed ‘iCVT’ automatic transmission, altogether promising a balance between performance and efficiency.
Just one single trimline is expected, and it sees its cabin primed with black leather seats contrasted by sporty red pipe-stitching motif, automatic climate control with dedicated rear passenger vent, 7-inch digital instrumentation, and a ‘floating’ 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment unit.
As for safety, the MG5 will arrive with six airbags lining its cabin, followed by the inclusion of the MG brand’s MG Pilot ADAS suite, albeit sans adaptive cruise control. Since its initial preview, bookings for the MG5 has opened at selected dealers at the aforementioned estimated price of RM100,000.
Since its preview, bookings for the MG5 have opened at selected MG dealers at an estimated price of RM100,000. Included in said price is both a 5-year, unlimited mileage warranty and a 7-year, unlimited mileage powertrain warranty.
When it is officially launched later this week, SAIC Motor Malaysia is expected to retain said price promise. Additionally, said price is also set to include a comprehensive 5-year, unlimited mileage warranty plus a 7-year, unlimited mileage powertrain warranty to boot.
We’ll have more details from the model’s official launch later this week. In the meantime, what do you folks reckon? Can this left-field Anglo-Chinese-badged alternative sway you and others away from the usual Japanese segment leaders or even the bargain hero that is the Proton S70?
As usual, share your thoughts in the comments below, as well as our social media pages…
