- Tesla Model Y: 2025 Refresh vs. 2024 Clearance Deal
Recently, Tesla Malaysia opened bookings for the updated 2025 Tesla Model Y, with the base RWD guise priced at RM195,450 and the Dual Motor AWD guise tagged at RM242,450.
At the same time, Tesla Malaysia is also clearing its inventory of 2024 Model Y units. These vehicles, with less than 50 KM on their odometers, are likely canceled or rejected orders. From its website, we can see that there are 14 units available at discounted price: 6 RWD units, 2 Long Range AWD units, and 6 Performance AWD units.
The 2024 Model Y RWD is priced anywhere between RM173,800 and RM194,800, depending on level of equipment primed. This represents savings of up to RM21,650 compared to the newly released 2025 model.
The 2024 Long Range AWD starts from RM255,500, making it RM8,050 less than the similarly equipped 2025 model. Meanwhile, the Performance AWD, priced from RM254,400, remains the only unique offering as the 2025 version is not yet available.
While the 2024MY inventory offers savings and immediate availability, it raises the question of whether buyers will opt for these older models or wait for the 2025MY version. It's worth noting that older models typically face a more significant drop in resale value in the secondary market.
We do feel the smart choice will be to go for the latest model which features better looks and arguably better features. This also comes despite a slight trade-off in top speed - the 2024 RWD and Long Range AWD has a higher 217 KM/H V-max versus the 2025MY’s 201 KM/H figure.
Additionally, we were also made aware that Tesla Malaysia is offering 0% interest loans exclusively for the 2024 RWD models. This financial incentive might attract some buyers, but this promotion has been an ongoing sales gimmick that will eventually be offered to the 2025 models later as sales stabilise.
For immediate ownership, the 2024 RWD and Performance AWD are worth considering. However, opting for the 2025MY version, which offers a refreshed design and enhanced features, arguably makes it a better long-term choice.
