2025 Tesla Model Y Juniper Unveiled, Bookings Opened From RM195,450
The highly-anticipated 2025 Tesla Model Y ‘Project Juniper’ has been officially revealed by the American disruptor EV makers today. Concurrently, Tesla Malaysia also announced bookings for which are now opened locally online too, with initial deliveries slated from late April onwards.
Aptly, ‘Project Juniper’ sees Tesla’s best-selling crossover EV undergo a series of revisions inside and out, all promising a host of enhancements and refinements. Two variants were announced, those being the base Model Y Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) and a Model Y Long Range All-Wheel Drive (AWD) slotted above which.
As for starting prices, the former starts at RM194,450 whilst the higher-specced latter is tagged from RM242,450 onwards. Besides that, a special Launch Edition guise is also available, and this is easily distinguished by its exclusive liftgate badging, puddle lights and doorsill plates.
Starting with the Model Y RWD, it boasts a claimed WLTP range of 466 KM, 0-100 KM/H sprint time of 5.9 secs plus a claimed V-max of 201 KM/H. The Model Y Long Range AWD ups the ante with its claimed WLTP range of 551 KM, as well as a quicker century sprint time of 4.3 secs. The Long Range All-Wheel Drive variant also comes with an Acceleration Boost feature for those who crave extra performance.
Notably, both variants feature redesigned front and rear ends sporting new lightbars incorporated. This not only sharpens its stance, the redesign also brings forth enhanced aerodynamic efficiency, hence the improved range figures detailed. Rolling stock sees 19-inch alloy wheels primed as standard, but can be upgraded to 20-inch at the additional cost of RM10,000.
On board, the cabin gets refined with new wrap-around interior lighting and soft-touch finishes. Like before, the cabin can be specified in either black or white colourways, the latter being a RM5,000 cost-option. Present too is a 15.4-inch touchscreen front and centre of the dash, as well as ventilated seats. Mirroring its Model 3 saloon sibling, the updated Model Y also no longer has physical control stalks behind the steering wheel, or even a gear selector.
Moving to the second row, it now features power-reclining seats that fold flat for maximum cargo storage, as well as an 8-inch touchscreen and Bluetooth connectivity. The five-seat configuration is standard for all Malaysian models, with adjustable seatbacks and electronic fold-flat releases in the trunk to further enhance versatility.
Connectivity improvements include extended range for the Phone Key, clearer call quality, and faster cellular and Wi-Fi performance. Tesla has also retuned the Model Y’s suspension, resulting in smoother handling, added comfort, more responsive steering, and a quieter ride.
Like before, the Tesla Enhanced Autopilot feature is available as a RM16,000 cost-option, providing functionality such as Autopilot navigation, Auto Lane Change, Autopark, and Dumb Summon. A Smart Summon feature is expected to be added soon, further enhancing convenience.
For those looking for more, the Full Self-Driving Capability package is also available for an additional RM32,000. This includes all features of Basic and Enhanced Autopilot and will be upgraded with Traffic Light and Stop Sign Control, as well as Autosteer on city streets in the near future.
