The Proton X50 Sport Edition Launches On Jan 16 With Just 1,000 Units Planned
Proton X50 Sport Edition as seen during KLIMS 2024 last month. Proton revealed today that this special launches virtually online this week.
Remember the sporty Proton X50 Sport Edition that was previewed last month during KLIMS 2024? Well, if you’re keen on one, then get ready as this special variant is set to officially debut virtually online later this week on Thursday, Jan 16 at 9PM.
The national automaker confirmed the launch date through an announcement posted on its official Facebook page earlier today. Besides Facebook, the Proton X50 Sport Edition launch will also be streamed live via Proton’s official TikTok and YouTube platforms as well.
Through the same announcement post, Proton also confirmed that this special variant will see a limited production run of just 1,000 units – the firm only stated prior that a ‘limited-run’ production was planned.
As a refresher, the X50 Sport Edition underpins the recently uprated and improved Proton X50 RC (Running Change) that was officially launched last year. Specifically, this special variant is based on the 1.5T Premium variant that slots just below the range-topping 1.5 TGDi Flagship guise.
Look past the special aesthetics and you'll find that the X50 Sport Edition special is based on the Proton X50 RC (Running Change) 1.5T Premium variant.
The unit shown during KLIMS 2024 came dressed in a special new black paintjob with gloss black-finished grille surround and tailgate garnish, striking red shoulder line stripe motif, gloss black 18-inch 10-spoke wheels, Sport Edition tailgate badge, and special door sill scuff plates.
On board, the X50 Sport Edition sees its kit list beefed up with a Qi wireless charger as well. Under the hood, the 1.5T Premium variant’s 1.5-litre port-injected 3-cyl turbo petrol powerplant and 7-speed DCT automatic transmission pairing is retained, the former outputting 150 PS and 226 NM.
Being based on the 1.5T Premium variant sees this sporty-styled special not only lose out on more pep from the 1.5 TGDi Flagship’s direct-injected 3-cyl turbo mill, it also sees said range-topper’s ADAS package omitted, even the range-topper shed a sunroof.
Just 1,000 units of the Proton X50 Sport Edition will be made available from Saturday onwards. Expect more details as soon as the crossover debuts this week.
What remains uncertain for now is price. For reference, the 2024 Proton X50 RC 1.5T Premium variant mentioned is priced at RM101,800. Expect it to command a slightly higher figure from which, and perhaps not exceed the range-topping 1.5 TGDi guise’s RM113,300 figure.
