Authorities conducted a major op on Sunday (Feb 1) in Kuala Lumpur, inspecting 1,500 motorcycles. KL police’s traffic enforcement and investigation department (JSPT) chief assistant commissioner Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa says that the operation, codenamed Op Tutup, aims to discourage motorbike riders from congregating and flaunting, which may result in risky riding and unlawful races.

According to Zamzuri, Op Tutup targeted motorcyclists who were congregated in various areas throughout the city centre. It entails inspecting 1,500 vehicles during the operation at Jalan Loke Yew, Jalan Kuching, and Jalan Tun Razak, with 72 motorcycles seized for unlawful modifications.

"Following screenings by policemen, together with several Road Transport Department (RTD) staff, 72 motorcycles were seized for illegal modifications. Op-Tutup-KL-JSPT-FB-1-750x496.jpg
"Between the RTD and the police, over 1,000 summonses were issued (789 by the police, 250 by RTD)," he added, noting that five motorists aged between 15 and 25 were arrested for using fake number plates, vehicle theft, and misuse of psychotropic substances.
