- 2026 Proton S70 MC1 Leaks Online, Jan 2026 Launch Tipped
Posted on the 'Proton S70 Malaysia' FB page recently was this image of the face-lifted 2026 Proton S70 MC1.

Having clapped eyes on camouflaged prototypes ourselves in recent months, it’s clear that the Proton S70 C-segment sedan offering is set to undergo a refresh for its upcoming 2026 model year form. Now, we’ve got another confirmation of which online.
Posted on the ‘Proton S70 Malaysia’ Facebook page recently was the featured image above, which gives us a clearer look at what’s destined to be called the 2026 Proton S70 facelift – or 2026 Proton S70 MC1 (‘Minor change’) – dressed in a new ‘Ruby Red’ exterior hue.
Said scarlet shade is just one of several minor visual and aesthetic changes coming to the 2026 Proton S70 MC1. Notable here too are the redesigned headlamps featuring integrated turn signal repeaters, as well as the new 17-inch two-tone wheels.

Proton's latest-gen i-GT petrol 4-cyl engines as seen in the face-lifted X50 (left) and fourth-gen Saga (right). The refreshed S70 is widely tipped to adopt either or both. Details below...

During the recent Proton Tech Showcase 2025, the national automaker had already outlined plans to expand the adoption of its new ‘i-GT’ 4-cyl engine family across its range. For reference, said mill currently powers the latest-gen Saga and face-lifted X50.
Given that both the S70 and X50 share similar bones, the former is expected to share the same turbocharged and direct-injected iteration of the 1.5-litre 4-cyl mill as the latter, replacing its current 1.5-litre 3-cyl turbo unit.
For reference, said 3-cyl currently powering the S70 puts out 148 hp and 226 Nm, whilst the face-lifted X50’s mill that’s bound to replace which stands peppier at 178 hp and 290 Nm. Of course, that’s not all.

Both the Iriz (left) and Persona (right) were recently axed from production. Whilst the Iriz is set to see a new Saga-based successor, rumours are rife the Persona could be succeeded by a new base-spec S70.

Having sampled a non-turbocharged and port-injected (instead of direct-injected) version of the i-GT mill in the fourth-gen Saga, speculation and rumours are rife online that the S70 could see a new base-spec variant adopting which.
For reference, the ‘watered down’ 1.5-litre 4-cyl i-GT petrol unit powering the fourth-gen Saga model puts out respectably modest headlining figures of 118 hp (120 PS) and 150 Nm.
This alleged new base-spec S70 guise with the naturally aspirated four-banger is widely touted to be a direct replacement to the recently discontinued Persona. However, this remains unverified still, so we’ll have to wait a little to know for sure.

Mild nip-tuck and powertrain swap aside, expect the 2026 Proton S70 MC1 to retain much of tech that’s brimmed in the current iteration. Key highlights include dual digital displays with data-powered connected infotainment functions including navigation, Level 2 ADAS suite, and more.
As for possible launch date, rumours online indicate market arrival as early as Jan 2026. However, considering Proton has yet to publish any sort of teasers for which, we reckon an actual launch might occur slightly later but still within the first quarter (Q1) of 2026.
