Gas Explosion: 275 Cars Damaged, Insurance and Banks Offer Aid

The second day of  Hari Raya Aidilfitri proved challenging for 237 home owners in Putra Heights following the major Petronas Gas Bhd’s (PGB) main gas pipeline explosion near Jalan Putra Harmoni, Putra Heights, Subang Jaya at 8:10 AM yesterday.

Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) reports confirmed that 365 vehicles were damaged, including 275 cars and 56 motorcycles. Two insurance providers were quick to respond via their social media channels by offering assistance to customers affected by the incident.

Takaful Malaysia urged its policyholders impacted by the incident to reach out for assistance, stating that they understand the immense challenges this tragedy has brought and are committed to supporting affected individuals during this difficult time. They advised those affected to stay safe and adhere to all safety protocols.

Meanwhile, Etiqa announced that eligible customers would be able to file claims without requiring a police report, streamlining the process for quicker assistance. Additionally, Carz.com.my has understood that vehicle owners with comprehensive insurance or third-party policies with a fire and theft add-on should be covered for damages caused by the explosion. Unlike flood-related claims, special perils add-ons are not required in this case.

In addition to insurance support, the Association of Banks in Malaysia (ABM) and its member banks have encouraged affected individuals with existing loans to contact their respective banks to explore possible temporary financial relief options.
