The road transport department (JPJ) director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli emphasized that the department is committed to cracking down on illegal racing, particularly among "mat rempit." He cautioned that JPJ is firm on highway safety and will not hesitate to take action against those who organize illegal races.

The JPJ’s director-general stated that the department will support the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) in their investigation of an incident where a truck driver was forced to stop by a person standing in the middle of the East Coast Expressway Phase 1 dual carriageway near Temerloh until two illegal racers left the scene.

He also emphasized that JPJ is ready to assist in any efforts to curb illegal racing.

Aedy acknowledged that JPJ cannot single-handedly combat 'mat rempit,' especially in large, organized races, and promised close cooperation with the police in joint operations against such activities. SHAH9424.jpg

“When conducting operations against ‘mat rempit’, especially those involving a well-planned race with a huge number of motorists, JPJ cannot act alone and we will work closely with the police to organise integrated operations,” he says in a Bernama report.
