Lexus is teasing the next-gen ES midsize saloon ahead of its debut at the upcoming Auto Shanghai 2025 motor show.

The debut of the sixth-gen Audi A6 sedan marks the completion of the next-gen German premium midsize saloon trio. Beyond the Germans, however, there’s one more contender that has yet to get a next-gen redux, but it won’t be too long as Lexus has just published a teaser of its long-awaited new midsize saloon, the Lexus ES.

For its eighth-gen iteration, the new ES will be “a global flagship model that refines advanced electrification technologies and pursues further evolution of its hallmark quietness and ride comfort,” thus promising some form of electrified powertrain primed to this midsize saloon.

While Lexus has yet to confirm whether it’ll be a normal parallel hybrid (HEV), plug-in (PHEV), or even all-out battery EV (BEV), the short teaser video does show that the new ES will sport a charging port on its front fender. With that being said, its Toyota counterpart, the XV80-gen Camry, does not come with a PHEV version, at least for now.

Other things that can be derived from the teaser images and videos are some of the design cues for the new ES, as it looks to adopt the same sleek saloon bodystyle as the aforementioned Camry, albeit with some obvious Lexus design touches. In place of the Camry’s C-shaped headlights are what seem to be L-shaped LED DRLs a la Lexus RZ EV, while a full-width LED taillight bar is primed at its rear.

Unlike the new Camry, however, the new ES seems to adopt a sportier fastback-style roofline, possibly following in the footsteps of another Japanese rival, the eleventh-gen Honda Accord. Rounding off the design cues shown in the teaser videos are the multi-spoke rims the new ES rolls on, which don’t look that different from the ones primed on the current-gen model.

As of now, those are the only things that can be derived from the short video teasers and images, but fortunately we won’t have to wait long to know the rest of the details, as the new Lexus ES will be making its debut at the upcoming Auto Shanghai 2025 motor show. We’ll share more details about the new ES and other new models debuting in Shanghai from April 23 onwards, so stay tuned here at Carz.com.my for the latest updates…
