- Proton Shifted 13,918 Units In March 2025
National automaker Proton saw its sales rebound in March 2025 as it shifted a atotal of 13,918 vehicles. This marks a 23.9% increase from Feb 2025, and a 9.6% increase Year-on-Year (YoY).
Altogether, Proton's total sales in the first quarter (Q1) of 2025 totaled at 35,068 units, representing an approximate 18.9% market share of the total industry volume (TIV), which stands at 184,652.
Leading this excellent recovery were sales of the Proton S70 saloon and Proton X90 D-segment SUV models, both of which achieved record monthly sales last month. The S70 led the C-segment sedan category with 2,125 units sold, representing a 77.5% increase from Feb and elevating its cumulative year-to-date sales to 4,465 units.
Meanwhile, the Proton X90 retained its dominance in the D-segment SUV market, with March sales up 73.6% to 302 units, while the Proton X50 remained the best-selling SUV overall with 1,858 units shifted throughout March 2025.
The Proton X70 experienced a 11.9% sales hike in March too, reaching 835 units, and a 52% year-over-year growth in its Q1 total to 2,158 units. The Proton Saga achieved its highest monthly sales for the year with 6,154 units. The Persona and Iriz also recorded their peak monthly sales, with 1,482 and 337 units sold, respectively.
Core combustion (ICE) models aside, Proton also saw its first EV, the e.MAS 7, record 797 delivered in March. This growth contributed to a Q1 total of 1,853 units sold across both domestic and international markets.
“Proton’s month-on-month sales grew by 23.9% in March, outpacing TIV growth of 12%. We attribute the results to aggressive promotions and excellent service from our dealership network,” said Proton Edar CEO Roslan Abdullah.
On the export front, Proton also recorded outstanding progress. The company's export volume increased by 211%, with 417 units exported in Q1. This significant increase in export sales has boosted total Q1 export data to 11.4% higher than the same period in 2024.
The Proton Saga was the primary driver of this growth, with 410 units exported, while new market openings like Nepal and Trinidad and Tobago contributed considerably to the company's growing global profile.
"Exports are a critical pillar for Proton's growth strategy. We are beginning to see positive results from our overseas investments, though there is still a long way to go; we are confident our offerings will appeal to both domestic and global buyers," he said.
