- Proton Closes Jan 2025 By Shifting 9,914 Units, e.MAS 7 Leads EV Sales Too
Proton recorded slowed sales in Jan 2024, shifting just 9,914 units.
According to national automaker Proton, the
Malaysian automotive market experienced slowed sales in Jan 2025 due to the
Chinese New Year festivities. The local industry saw an estimated 50,278 vehicles sold last
month, marking a 38.7% decrease from Dec 2024 and a 24.9% Year-on-Year (YoY)decrease
from the same month last year.
This downward trend was not limited to the
overall market says Proton, which reported a sales decline too.
Overall, Proton recorded 9,914 units sold in Jan 2025, and this encompasses both domestic and export sales, as well as sales from PRO-NET brands Proton e.MAS and smart Automobile. This figure contrasts with the 12,882 units (combustion or 'ICE' cars only) shifted by the automaker in Jan 2024.
As expected, the Saga model continues to be P1's top-seller with 4,597 units shifted in Jan 2024.
The Proton Saga was again the company's top
seller last month with 4,597 units sold.
Also leading the charge for segment sales were the Proton X50, which saw
1,436 units shifted, followed by the Proton S70 with 1,143 units sold. Sales of the face-lifted Proton X70 C-SUV, on the other hand, continues to chart strongly too with 576 units
sold.
As anticipated, the Proton e.MAS 7 stood as Malaysia's best-selling EV for the first month of this year, having already generated over 3,000 bookings since its launch. With almost 4,000 units booked thus far, said EV SUV holds a 25% market share for EVs in Jan 2025. Moreover, Proton also confirmed that 421 units of the e.MAS 7 have been delivered to customers thus far.
Proton also highlights that the Proton e.MAS 7 stood as Malaysia's best-selling EV for Jan 2025. To date, the firm has collected nearly 4,000 bookings, and 80% of which are for the Premium variant.
as for deliveries, Proton revealed that 421 units of the e.MAS 7 have been delivered to customers thus far.

Additionally, overwhelming demand for the
Premium variant, which accounts for over 80% of all bookings
received, indicates a strong consumer preference for high-end features and a
willingness to invest in advanced EV technology, notes Proton.
"Proton is able to offer its customers a product that can compete against any rival while delivering value and after sales care unmatched in the segment by utilising cutting-edge technologies mated to a brand-new platform wrapped in a practical package,” remarked Zhang Qiang, Deputy CEO of Proton Edar.
Naturally, the Saga also continues to charge Proton's overseas exports in Jan 2025, which saw its total grow by 86.9%. Sales of the X50 and S70 models overseas bolstered which too.
Elsewhere, Proton saw significant growth for export volume, which grew by 86.9% last month. This is primarily driven by strong sales for the Saga, X50, and S70. Altogether, the company shipped 200 units overseas in Jan 2025, up from the 107 units shipped in the same month last year.
