All lanes heading from Singapore to Malaysia on the Tuas Second Link will be closed from 5.00AM to 2.00PM tomorrow, July 23. The closure is due to a full-scale emergency response exercise simulating a cross-border chemical spill.

During this period, traffic bound for Malaysia will be diverted to a lane on the opposite carriageway, which typically serves vehicles travelling from Malaysia to Singapore. Drivers should expect delays and are advised to plan ahead. Authorities also recommend using the Woodlands Checkpoint as an alternative route.

The emergency drill is jointly organised by Singapore and Malaysia under the Malaysia-Singapore Joint Committee on the Environment (MSJCE). It is led by Singapore’s National Environment Agency (NEA) and Malaysia’s Department of Environment (DOE), with support from other relevant agencies.

The scenario involves a simulated multi-vehicle accident with trucks carrying hazardous chemicals. It is designed to test both countries’ emergency response procedures in handling cross-border incidents involving dangerous goods and environmental risks.

Motorists are urged to follow instructions from traffic marshals. Authorities have also advised the public not to be alarmed by the visible presence of emergency vehicles and personnel in the area.

This exercise forms part of ongoing bilateral cooperation aimed at strengthening environmental safety and improving readiness for emergencies along the border.
