Leading German premium automaker Mercedes-Benz recently revealed the extent of a global crackdown it conducted against the sale of fake and counterfeit parts last year (2024).
Collaborating with local and international authorities, the three-point star marque says it actively works to remove counterfeit and fake spare parts, accessories, as well as related merchandise, from the market.
In said global crackdown, Mercedes-Benz conducted 793 raids that yielded over 1.5 million counterfeit Mercedes-Benz products in total.

In 2024 alone, Mercedes-Benz touts that it conducted 793 raids globally, yielding over 1.5 million counterfeit Mercedes-Benz products. The automaker even noted that the figure marks an upward trend, and this is certainly worrying development.
While these fakes and counterfeits look identical to genuine parts, they do not meet the high standards for both quality and – critically – safety set by the marque. We’ll also stress that counterfeit or fake parts and accessories can lead to severe accidents and, in some cases, death.

Amongst the items seized by Mercedes-Benz include air filters made from highly flammable materials, as well as inferior brake components such as brake pads made with hazardous substances like lead and arsenic.
“Originals stand for tested quality. They meet technical, environmental, and occupational safety requirements, ensuring road safety,” stresses Renata Jungo Brüngger, Member of the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz Group AG for Integrity, Governance & Sustainability.

Mercedes-Benz adds it noted a growing number of counterfeit and fake parts and accessories for both its Maybach luxury and Mercedes-AMG performance sub-brands.

Mercedes-Benz adds that these raids are vital in the fight against counterfeit products. The automaker also says it has discovered a growing number of counterfeit and fake parts and accessories for both its high-end luxury and high-performance Maybach and Mercedes-AMG sub-brands respectively.
Nevertheless, the automaker has been able to identify production sites through months of intense investigations, which includes tracking online offers and following leads. Many of these raids even uncovered counterfeit workshops operating in deplorably poor, hazardous conditions with serious environmental harm also reported.
Mercedes-Benz advises owners to carefully examine suspicious online offers, inspect for defect, and to be vigilant with items priced below market value.

Since counterfeits and fakes thrive online thanks to the anonymity granted by the web, Mercedes-Benz intensified efforts to dismantle this. In 2024 alone, the automaker revealed over 212,000 listing of counterfeit and fake Mercedes-Benz products, plus trademark-violating materials, were removed.
Moving forward, Mercedes-Benz advises owners and customers to carefully examine suspicious online offers, inspect for defects, and to always be vigilant with items priced well below market value.
