Johor has become the first state in the Asia-Pacific region to adopt the advanced Pothole Pro JCB machine. In turn, this boost the efforts under its Zero Pothole initiative.

Two units, each costing RM1.6 million, were acquired by contractor Safwa Global Venture (M) Sdn Bhd using technology from the United Kingdom.

State Works, Transport, Infrastructure and Communication Committee chairman Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh said the machines will make road repairs faster, cleaner and more durable.

With the new system, fixing a one-square-metre pothole takes about eight minutes to cut and 20 minutes to patch, compared to nearly an hour with conventional methods. Each team will now require only three workers instead of six, while road closures can be kept shorter.

The machines are also capable of cutting up to 120 MM deep with smoother, neater finishes, which can extend road durability by as much as 90%.

Mohamad Fazli said adopting the technology reflects Johor’s commitment to eliminating potholes while supporting the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ), where reliable road networks are crucial for economic growth and investment.
