- BYD Teases Yangwang U9 02 - New Prototype EV Supercar With Nearly 3,000 hp!
Once again, Chinese NEV-making giants BYD have rocked the internet in China with a brand new teaser for its upcoming new Yangwang U9 '02' prototype halo electric (EV) supercar. Though the film is short at barely 20 secs, the hype generated from which is palpable.
Not much was revealed from said teaser film other than a glimpse of the supercar’s front-end, taillights, and a its coupe silhouette. Other than that, the film also shows the new ‘prototype’ being rolled out onto what appears to be a high-speed oval track.
The teaser video only gives a glimpse of the new Yangwang U9 '02' prototype's front-end.

While the model remains in early testing stage still, the announcement does follows up from a series of high-profile milestones charted by Yangwang 09 test car – dubbed the ‘01’. As a refresher, said milestones include charting a new EV top speed record of 472.21 km/h.
BYD did however claimed that the Yangwang U9 02 has a total output of 2,200 kW – approx. 2,978 hp – and touts it as “the world’s strongest horsepower.” We’ll leave it to you to decipher what the Chinese NEV meant with the latter statement.

Last month, the Yangwang U9 01 'Track Edition' set a new EV speed record when it hit a V-max of 472.41 km/h.

For reference, the Yangwang U9 01 – in ‘Track Editon’ guise at least – harnesses a quad-motor (4x e-motor) setup generating over 2,960 hp. It’s also presented by the NEV-making giants as “the first mass-produced 1,200V ultra-high-voltage vehicle platform paired with a thermal-management system optimised for extreme conditions.”
Other key technologies primed in this highly charged EV supercar include BYD’s trick DiSus-X intelligent active body control system (Yun Nian-X), as well as a “domestically developed high-performance tyres designed for speeds of up to 500 km/h.”

The production version of the BYD Yangwang U9 'Track Edition' from leaked MIIT filings. Note the massive rear spoiler this version is brimmed with.

Beyond which, BYD did not disclose technical specifications or a launch timeline for the Yangwang U9 02.
Nevertheless, with both its previous U9 ‘01’ Track Edition and this newly announced ‘02’ prototype, the Yangwang sub-brand continues to emphasise on high-performance EV development.
