The first images of the upcoming Toyota bZ7 EV saloon have surfaced in China ahead of its debut later this year.

The first official images of the upcoming Toyota bZ7 have surfaced in China, showcasing a sleek flagship EV saloon with familiar design cues derived from other Toyota EVs. This is essentially the production version of the Toyota bZ7 Concept, which is set to debut in China by the end of this year.

Immediately you’ll notice that the new bZ7 carries the same design language seen on many newer Toyota models, with the most prominent element being the hammerhead front face with sharp C-shaped LED headlights. Being a fully electric car, the bZ7 gets a cleaner grill-less front bumper, and there’s also a LiDAR unit on the roof, which is part of Momenta’s ADAS system primed to the car.

Moving further back, the bZ7 gets a sleek fastback-style silhouette with long triangular rear quarter glass panels, frameless doors, semi-flushed door handles, and full-width LED taillights. The official images also show the saloon rolling on large 21-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels, which look rather small on this large saloon.

How large, you ask? According to CarNewsChina, the bZ7 spans 5,130 mm long, 1,965 mm wide, 1,506 mm tall, and with a 3,020 mm wheelbase, thus putting it on par with other flagship EV saloons in China.

Fortunately, the official images also include the interior, where the bZ7 seems to boast a pretty minimalist cabin laden with high-tech amenities. Key highlights include a central floating infotainment screen with a slim trapezoidal digital metre cluster, a three-spoke steering wheel, a floating central console with a wireless charger, ambient lights, plush upholstery, and many more.

Borne out of GAC-Toyota’s partnership with Huawei and Momenta, the bZ7 gets its power from a Huawei-sourced electric motor setup that delivers up to 278 hp (207 kW), which is good for up to 180 km/h of V-max. The battery, on the other hand, is provided by CALB, with both its specific capacity and range yet to be revealed, at least for now.

Besides Huawei and Momenta, Chinese tech giant Xiaomi also played a role in the development of the bZ7. According to CarNewsChina, the bZ7 will be the first EV to integrate Xiaomi’s new “Human x Car x Home” smart ecosystem that connects personal devices and smart home products to smart cars.

This means that bZ7 owners can perform actions such as remotely controlling the air conditioner or activating the robot vacuum at their home just from the car’s cockpit control screen.

As of now, GAC-Toyota remains quiet on both the exact launch date and estimated prices for the upcoming Toyota bZ7 EV. But given its first official images are now up, we can expect this sleek EV saloon to make its Great Wall debut very soon.
