JPJ: No Interference in JPJeBid, Number Resale Are Private Deals
The Road Transport Department’s (JPJ) online bidding platform, JPJeBid, remains free from outside interference, said Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Hasbi Habibollah, as reported by The Star.
He said the ministry is aware of individuals and scalpers reselling vehicle registration numbers obtained through JPJeBid. However, only verified users are allowed to participate in the official bidding process to ensure transparency and accountability.
“JPJ has never recognised the resale of registration numbers on unofficial platforms,” Hasbi said in Parliament during the winding-up of the debate on the Auditor-General’s Report. “The public should only obtain numbers through JPJ’s official channels to avoid misuse.”
Hasbi noted that while some people resell numbers for profit after winning them legitimately, such transactions are considered private and fall outside JPJ’s jurisdiction.
Ownership transfers, he said, are only allowed under specific circumstances such as the bidder’s death or transfers to immediate family members, including a spouse, parent, child or sibling.
He assured that the JPJeBid system is closely monitored, with all proceeds from the bidding process managed directly by JPJ. To maintain fairness, individuals can win up to five numbers per bidding round, while companies are limited to three.
Numbers not used within their validity period will be returned to the system for re-bidding or re-offer, ensuring no loss of government revenue.
“JPJ will continue to refine and strengthen the JPJeBid platform to enhance revenue collection and safeguard the integrity of the process,” he said.
