Wolfgang Egger’s Masterpiece: Denza Z9 GT Confirmed for Malaysia Launch in Q2 2026

BYD Malaysia has officially confirmed that the Denza Z9 GT is set to launch in the local market in early 2026 (expected Q2) following its preview last February. As the flagship luxury "shooting brake" for the brand, the Z9 GT is designed to offer a tech-forward alternative to the Porsche Panamera and BMW 5 Series Touring.
Masterful Design by Wolfgang Egger
The Z9 GT is the brainchild of Wolfgang Egger, whose legendary career at Alfa Romeo, Audi, and Lamborghini is evident in the car's sleek, "shooting brake" silhouette:
- Aesthetic Highlights: The front features a "split-wing" lighting signature, while the rear boasts expansive graphics inspired by 1960s American muscle cars.
- Dimensions: At nearly 5.2 meters long with a 3,125 mm wheelbase, it commands a massive road presence, sitting on 20-inch aero wheels.
The Power of Three: The e³ Platform
Unlike standard dual-motor EVs, the Z9 GT is built on the revolutionary e³ (e-cubed) platform, utilizing a tri-motor AWD setup. While a Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) exists globally, the fully electric vehicle (EV) variant is likely the model coming to Malaysia. Below are the details:
- Unmatched Performance: The BEV variant delivers a combined 965 PS (952 hp) and a staggering 1,150 Nm of torque, propelling it from 0-100 km/h in 3.4 seconds.
- Battery & Range: A 100.1 kWh LFP Blade Battery provides a 630 km range (CLTC).
- PHEV Option: Also available is a 2.0L Turbo PHEV variant using BYD’s 5th-gen DM system, offering a total range of 1,100 km.
Unparalleled Agility: Crab Walks & Tank Turns
Despite its size, the Z9 GT is surprisingly nimble thanks to its 20-degree rear-wheel steering. This system allows for:
- A 4.62-meter turning radius (comparable to a compact hatchback).
- Advanced Maneuvers: Including "crab walking" and "tank turns," making tight Malaysian parking spots a breeze.
- Ride Comfort: Standard DiSus-A dual-chamber air suspension allows the car to adjust its height by up to 50 mm.
Executive-Class Interior
Inside, the Z9 GT mirrors the luxury of the Denza D9 but adds larger screens: a 17.3-inch central infotainment unit and a 13.2-inch digital cockpit. Premium touches include open-pore wood, dual 50W wireless chargers, and an onboard fridge (heated and cooled) located under the center armrest.
From its 20-degree rear-wheel steering that makes city driving a breeze to the ultra-luxurious cabin featuring dual wireless charging and climate-controlled storage, the Z9 GT is as practical as it is powerful. It represents the ultimate upgrade for current BYD owners looking for executive-level refinement without compromising on cutting-edge features.
