Perodua exceeds 2020 sales goal by 10,154 units

Malaysia’s largest carmaker Perusahaan Otomobil Kedua Sdn Bhd (Perodua) has ended their 2020 with 220,154 units sold, 10,154 units more than the target set for the year. 

Due to the government’s sales tax exemption, the demand for their vehicles increased immensely. 

Perodua president and chief executive officer Datuk Zainal Abidin Ahmad thanked Malaysians for choosing Perodua and also the government for the generosity of the sales tax exemption under PENJANA that lifted the sales in the automotive industry. 

Despite halting their production from March to May due to the Movement Control Order (MCO), he stated that Perodua still managed to produce 220,968 vehicles. 

Zainal also disclosed that the company managed to reach a new heights for their Energy-Efficient Vehicle milestone with the one million mark, in November 2020. This made the company the largest EEV manufacturer in the country. 

He mentioned that after exceeding their sales target, a more positive impression has been set in the country’s automotive system that has aided dealers as well as independent parts suppliers to overcome the many challenges of 2020. Following that, he added on that sales targets for 2021 and other information will be updated moving forward.

Perodua president affirmed the public that the company will continue to prioritise the needs and wants of the people when making improvements to the characteristics of their business, that includes fuel efficiency via advanced technology that he ensures will remain economical.
