DS Automobiles Introduces the New and Improved DS 4
The recently released second-generation DS 4 rejoins the Premium C-segment hatchback market along with a fresh new look, as well as several added futuristic features.
Available in three variants - the DS 4, DS 4 Performance Line and the DS 4 Cross, the vehicle has been improved with longer and wider dimensions making it 4.4 metres long, with a width of 1.83 metres and has a height of 1.47 metres.
The front view of the DS 4 features revised characteristics such as slimmer projector headlamps that feature the signature DS MATRIX LED VISION system that comes with both matrix and directional lighting.
Made up of three LED modules, the headlamps are able to adapt to traffic conditions, steering wheel angle, speed and weather conditions with five pre-set modes: city, country, motorway, bad weather and fog. It also allows the driver to drive constantly on the main beam without ever dazzling other road users as the headlamps are able to automatically adjust their light beams within the range of 300 metres.
Following that is the Daytime Running Lights that are made up of two lines of LEDs on each side of the vehicle as well a large grille that is linked to the headlamps with the DS WINGS. The grille is made up of two parts that include diamond tip motifs that come in different sizes that gives the three-dimensional grille a more striking feel to it.
As for the rear of the vehicle, the roof slopes down towards the rear window with an enamel screen print for more structured aerodynamics. The body design of the vehicle highlights the C pillar which has a black gloss finish along with an inset DS Automobiles badge and improved rear light features. Not forgetting the prominent new bumpers, subtle chrome touches and the sleek roof in black.
The DS 4 comes with a digital interior that includes a refined control layout with three zones of interface and a hobnail design that highlights the air conditioning controls and the DS AIR (invisible air vent), as well as the electric window switches that fit with the side vents that are built into the doors of the vehicle.
On top of that, there is also DS SMART TOUCH, a 5-inch touchscreen that is linked to the DS IRIS SYSTEM, as well as a compact control for the automatic gearbox called the DS E-TOGGLE.
The interior of the DS 4 comes with two merged zones that include a contact zone for comfort and an interactive zone for the various interfaces. The interior of the vehicle is also finished in several types of leather that include Alcantara, forged carbon, wood, as well as a fresh upholstery process. Massaging and cooling features have also been added to the seats of the vehicle which are also covered by high density foam.
A two-tone interior is also available for the DS 4 where the seats come in Pebble Gray grain leather, where the interactive zone is embellished with Brown Ash wood and extra high-quality Criollo Brown Nappa Leather.
One of the many noteworthy features about the vehicle is the ambient lighting that can be personalised. The acoustic ambience is made up of a 690-Watt FOCAL ELECTRA sound system, along with 14 speakers including acoustic side glass for both the front and rear of the vehicle.
Under the hood is the 1.6-litre turbocharged 180 horsepower (hp) 4-cylinder engine paired with a 110 hp electric motor and an e-EAT8 gearbox. It has over 50km range in zero emissions mode on the combined WLTP cycle.
Customers will also be given an option to pick from the PureTech 130, 180 and 225 horsepower petrol versions and a 130 hp Diesel BlueHDi version. All models are equipped with an 8-speed automatic gearbox.
The new design of the vehicle allows more weight reduction as the vehicle is equipped with new components that are derived from composite materials, hot-pressed structural parts and elements that are more compact.
Next to that, the DS 4 comes with a generous boot space of 430 litres, along with hands-free opening and a powered tailgate. The car also comes with 19 and 20-inch options that both feature All Season 3PMSF A-rated tyres.
An interesting highlight of the DS 4 is the DS EXTENDED HEAD-UP DISPLAY that projects important driving information directly onto the road, providing the driver with state-of-the-art visual experience.
This feature uses an optical illusion to display data four metres ahead of the windscreen diagonally following the driver’s gaze at 21-inches. Among the data projected will be speed, driver aids, navigation, warning messages or even the track they’re listening to or the call they’re taking.
The infotainment system has been redesigned and is now a 10-inch DS IRIS SYSTEM that comes with a gesture control system, DS SMART TOUCH that can be found on the centre console.
Other than that, the DS 4 also comes with an update for the driver assist features which is now known as DS DRIVE ASSIST 2.0. Some of the safety features included in the vehicle is cruise control that adapts to the speed of the vehicle (depending on the traffic flow) that is also able to start and restart during traffic jams.
After that are three newly added features which is the semi-automatic overtaking, speed adjustment for sharp corners, as well as foresee speed recommendations from sign posts. This is followed by long-distance blind spot monitoring (with a range of 75m) and rear traffic warning that comes with the new “Radar Corners” feature. A controlled damping feature called the DS ACTIVE SCAN SUSPENSION is also available in the vehicle.
Other safety features include the DS NIGHT VISION which uses an infrared camera (located in the grille) to spot pedestrians or animals at night or in poor light, up to 200 metres away.
As an exclusive option, the DS 4 CROSS variant comes with Advanced Traction Control that helps with improved grip with sand, snow and mud modes, as well as comes with Hill Assist Descent Control.
The PERFORMANCE LINE comes with special exclusive detailing such as wide swathes of Alcantara® covering the dashboard, the doors and the whole centre console, as well as high-density foam seats with Basalt plaited cloth and Alcantara® finished with embroidery and special gold and Carmin stitching.
As for the colour options, the DS 4 is made available in seven colours; two new colours which are Copper Gold and Lacquered Grey, as well as 5 other colours which are Pearl Crystal, Platinum Grey, Red Velvet, Pearl White and Perla Nera Black.
