Porsche Museum’s Digital Journey, The ’25 Years Of The Boxster’
Recently Porsche Museum has marked the 44th International Museum Day by exhibiting their ’25 years of the Boxster’ through a virtual guided tour.

The digital experience that has been transported into living rooms all around the world has provided all Porsche enthusiasts with the history and significance of the brand’s mid-engine sports car.

Porsche Museum’s director heritage Achim Stejskal said, “Changed times demand a new way of thinking. We have already been using digital technology and showing the origins and experience of Porsche in automotive engineering through modern channels for a long time”.

Porscheplatz in Zuffenhausen is where the historical work of Porsche’s masterpieces happens and the museum has made it accessible through their website at www.porsche.com/Museum.

All Boxster models and its ancestors exhibited in the virtual tour were presented in 2 - 3-minute videos. In which, viewers can navigate through the guided tour themselves and can select which car they would like to see next from a choice of two vehicles in each walkthrough.

Among the exhibited, a significant model featured was a Porsche with mid-engine technology that was used back in 1948 in the Porsche 356 ‘No. 1’ Roadster, which is also the first car to be built under the Porsche name.

Another notable highlight is the Boxster concept car that was revealed at the Detroit Motor Show in 1993, which served as a basis for the first production generation in 1996 and the starting point for the car’s global success.

Moreover, the audiences have also been given a peek into the legendary 550 Spyder. This ancestor to the Boxster has a weight of around 550 kg, it was also the first vehicle designed by Porsche for motorsport and the first car with the rev cluster positioned in the middle.

Additionally, during the virtual guided tour day, Porsche Museum also exhibited the 984 Roadster, a small and lightweight prototype that marked the direction of Porsche's roadster concept. Its unique feature is the engine fitted underneath the floor panel, known as an underfloor engine.

Also exhibited is the Porsche 914/4 from 1975. It is one of the brand’s most-produced two-seater cars with about 120,000 units built. The Porsche Museum has showcased their new evolution of the water-cooled boxer engine by using a cross-sectional model of the 986 Boxster S.

Furthermore, making an appearance is the 1968 Boxster 909 Bergspyder. It is a one-seater sports car, which was based on the 3rd generation Porsche 981. This vehicle weighs about 384 kilograms, making it the lightest racing car ever built by Porsche.

All in all, in further rejoicing of the 44th International Museum Day, Porsche has also created a Boxster ‘25 years’ edition to pay homage to the Detroit concept car from 1993.

It was launched at the beginning of this year and production of the masterpiece has been limited to only 1,250 units worldwide.
