Practical, Affordable & Realistic, UMW Toyota Motor Launches Its Hybrid Electric Technology To Malaysian Markets!
UMW Toyota Motor just launched its Hybrid Electric technology to Malaysian markets, emphasising it is practical, affordable and realistic. This is the start of a new era in Malaysia with Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEV)!
For those who don’t know, Toyota revealed its first-generation Hybrid Electric Vehicle in 1997. Today, its technology has had more than 20 years of growth!
“For the automotive industry, carbon neutrality involves a very challenging process to ensure that zero emissions can be achieved throughout the lifecycle of manufacturing, transporting, energy generating, fueling and/or charging, and the recycling and disposal of vehicles,” said Deputy Chairman of UMW Toyota Motor, Akio Takeyama.
For the company to achieve carbon neutrality, it would have to bring in a more holistic approach. A good example would be Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEV); Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV); Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEV), and Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles (FCEV).
To improve fuel efficiency at a better rate, Toyota has also been actively pursuing developing e-fuels made from hydrogen.
The company increased its global sales target of electrified vehicles from five million to eight million units by 2030. This goal is supported by Toyota’s recent and future investment in battery development and supply.
“For the immediate future, we are positive that the HEV is the most accessible and realistic choice for Malaysian customers in terms of practicality and infrastructure, with enormous potential in Malaysia. It is a realistic bridge towards vehicle electrification. At the same time, efforts are still being undertaken to help realise enablers for BEV, such as cost reduction, energy mix improvement and infrastructure development,” said Takeyama.
“Toyota HEVs are at their most advanced today, and present themselves as the most realistic, immediate, economical and practical solution for mass-market production and sale in terms of reduced CO2 emission, practical usage, and price acceptance by customers.”
“It also requires no new infrastructure to be built, for instance, charging stations, the vehicle does not need to be charged, and it completely eliminates any anxiety users may have in terms of limited driving range,” he added.
Among the benefits of Toyota’s Hybrid system includes dual-power. The highly efficient petrol engine paired with two electric motors provides two energy sources, better efficiency, drivability, performance, and a long range between refuelling. Not forgetting that it offers fewer fuel costs, greater controllability and instant torque, as well as an environmentally-conscious alternative.

Moving on, the new generation of HEVs were made to be exciting to drive. It now offers new and higher performance levels, responsiveness, acceleration and handling, and delivers enhanced levels of noise, vibration and harshness (NVH).

Next to that, these vehicles were made to last. They are developed to be reliable, durable, and dependable and capable of withstanding the test of time, terrain, and distance.

Their strategy is to produce fewer emissions and adopt new processes and technology to reduce the resources and energy required to manufacture these vehicles.

Equipped with winning technology, these vehicles will continue to be put to the most challenging test and validated through Toyota’s participation in international motorsports. Taking into example the TS050 HYBRID Le Mans Hypercar that 2018, 2019 and 2020, as well as holds the distinction of being the fastest-ever car around Le Mans’ 13.626km Circuit de la Sarthe with a time of 3mins 14.791secs at an average speed of 251.9km/h recorded in 2017.

Not only did Toyota win Le Mans for a fourth consecutive time, but it also dominated the race with a 1-2 finish with the GR010 HYBRID Le Mans Hypercar!
“We have the right technology, the right products in support of the existing infrastructure and energy policies. We are in an ideal position to contribute to Malaysia’s ambition to become a hub for advanced technologies and reduce its carbon footprint. This will be an important cornerstone towards ensuring future policies and the people are well-positioned and prepared to accept vehicle electrification,” said President of UMW Toyota Motor, Ravindran K.
So, do you think this may be a hint to the Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid finally reaching Malaysian markets? We believe that we may not have to wait much longer as the model has already made its debut in our neighbouring countries such as Thailand and Indonesia.
Before the launch of its new hybrid technology, Toyota revealed its new Toyota’s Loyal-T Programme that replaced the previous Toyota Merit programme in June.
For even more benefits, all Toyota customers stand to earn points with vehicle purchase, vehicle servicing, purchase of spare parts, renewal of vehicle insurance, and body and paint repairs at any Authorised Toyota Outlets nationwide. With these points, customers can exchange them for E-service vouchers that can be redeemed for future services!
