Crossing The Threshold Into A New Era, Opel Presents The New Astra
![]()
Opening a new era with its bold and pure design as well as innovative top technologies, Opel presents the new Astra.
Making its world premiere in Rüsselsheim last October, the latest generation of the compact class bestseller is already available to order.

Opel’s chief executive officer, Uwe Hochgeschurtz, remarked, “The bold and pure design of the new Opel Astra will thrill many customers. In addition, our new compact model also offers much more, particularly high economy combined with innovative technologies and a wide range of powertrains from petrol and diesel to a plug-in hybrid. Right from the start of ordering, our customers can choose the right solution for them depending on their preferences and driving profile. Electric, efficient and exciting, that is the new Astra.”
Tagging a price akin to its predecessor, the entry-level five-door model is offered at EUR 22,465 (RM 107,107) in Germany.

It sports a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder turbo, direct-injection petrol engine that produces a maximum output of 81 kW (110 hp).
Said setup is mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox with a combined fuel consumption of 5.5 to 5.4 l/100 km and CO2 emissions of 126 to 123 g/km according to WLTP.

Conversely, right from the market launch, for the first time, the new Astra is also available in an electric version with a price tag of EUR 35,800 (RM 170,717).
However, after deducting the Environmental Bonus, the purchase price of the new Astra Hybrid is only at EUR 28,622.50 (RM 136,490).

A lot of power with maximum efficiency is guaranteed, as the hybrid provides a system output of 133 kW (180 hp) and a powerful 360 Nm of maximum torque.
According to the WLTP cycle, it has a combined fuel consumption of 1.1 to 1.0 l/100 km and CO2 emissions of 26 to 22 g/km.

Moreover, range-wise, under the pure electric mode, the new Astra Hybrid can cover up to 60 km of emissions-free distance.
As for the top of the range model, being the top-of-the-line hybrid, it has an impressive 165 kW (225 hp) system output.

In terms of the combined fuel consumption, it combusts at 1.4 to 1.1 l/100 km and emits 31 to 24 g/km of CO2 (WLTP).
Notably, starting from the beginning of 2023, the battery-electric Opel Astra-e will complete the drive portfolio.

Aesthetic-wise, it combines bold stylings with top technologies. Thus, making the new Opel Astra a design statement for the brand.
Sporting a new brand face called the Opel Vizor, the new Astra is dynamic as never before, with sheer and taut surfaces, detoxed of superfluous elements.

Furthermore, the new Astra also makes a clear statement with the technologies and assistance systems it brings to the compact class.
One highlight of the extensive portfolio is the latest version of the adaptive, glare-free Intelli-Lux LED Pixel light.

This system comes directly from the Opel flagship Insignia and, with 168 LED elements, it is a leader in the compact and midsize class.
Transitioning inside, a leap in time has taken place in the interior of the new generation, Astra. Featuring the fully digital Pure Panel, it makes analogue instruments a thing of the past.

Instead, the new human-machine interface (HMI) with fresh, modern graphics provides a pure and more intuitive experience.
Operation is via an extra-wide touchscreen, just like a smartphone. In addition, important settings such as climate control can still be selected directly via a few switches.
Then, the outstanding seating comfort features AGR-certified (Aktion Gesunder Rücken e.V.) front seats that are developed in-house with exemplary ergonomics, especially on long journeys.

On top of that, the driver is also supported by optional state-of-the-art assistance systems ranging from the head-up display to the 360-degree view called Intelli-Vision.
Added to the numerous standard systems, e.g., front collision warning with automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, speed sign and drowsiness detection.
All in all, the sleek Opel Astra five-door will begin rolling out to the first customers in early 2022, while the sporty and elegant Opel Astra Sports Tourer estate will follow shortly.
