Opel’s Functionally Pleasing Design, The Beautiful And Practical Astra Sports Tourer
Production has started with the order books already opened, showcasing the pure and bold styling of its new generation compact class estate, Opel presents the Astra Sports Tourer.
The all-new five-door Astra is offered in two guises at launch, a plug-in hybrid and an internal combustion engine.
Pricing in Germany for the Astra Sports Tourer starts at EUR 23,565 (RM 109,411) for the combustion version and at EUR 36,900 (RM 171,295) for the electric version.

Opel’s chief executive officer, Uwe Hochgeschurtz, expressed, “With the new Opel Astra Sports Tourer, we make a real statement in compact class estates. It features innovative, digital technologies such as the Pure Panel cockpit, which is otherwise only available in higher vehicle segments. In addition, we offer a typical Opel package with plenty of space for passengers and luggage. The Sports Tourer comes as a plug-in hybrid right at the start of sales, to be followed by a purely battery-electric version in the not-too-distant future. And the Astra Sports Tourer also looks fantastic.”
Performance-wise, the combustion version comes with a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder turbo, direct injection petrol engine that is paired to a 6-speed manual transmission.
It generates 81 kW (110 hp) of power and has a combined fuel consumption of 5.7 - 5.5 l/100 km with CO2 emissions of 129 - 125 g/km (WLTP).

As for the brand’s first electrified estate, the plug-in hybrid has a system output of 133 kW (180 hp) and a powerful 360 Nm of maximum torque.
Covering a driving range of up to 60 km, it has a combined fuel consumption of 1.2 - 1.1 l/100 km and CO2 emissions of 26 - 25 g/km (WLTP).
Exterior-wise, the new Opel Astra Sports Tourer is a true design statement and the first Opel estate to feature the new Opel Vizor brand face.

Under the Vizor are class-leading technologies such as the latest version of the adaptive, glare-free Intelli-Lux LED Pixel Light.
Said light system features a total of 168 LED elements, and was derived directly from Opel's flagship models, the Insignia and Grandland.
What’s more, the new Opel Astra is also the first estate to be available with a stylish two-tone paint finish.

Then, enclosed underneath the sleek silhouette stretching from the front to the characteristic rear with a vertical third brake light, is plenty of space for all the everyday needs.
Commandingly, it stands at 4,642 mm in length, 1,860 mm in width, 1,480 mm in height, a wheelbase spanning 2,732 mm and a loading height of around 600 mm.
Thanks to its build, the combustion variants with the seats folded have a load volume of up to 1,634-litres, whereas the plug-in hybrid with lithium-ion cells in the underbody has up to 1,553-litres.

Speaking of the boot, there are practical details such as the ‘Intelli-Space’ loading floor, which can be adjusted to two heights and parked at a 45-degree angle.
For even higher convenience, the retractable boot storage cover can be stowed when the moveable floor is in both the upper as well as the lower position.
In addition, with the ‘Intelli-Space’, the kits for tyre repair and first aid are stored in clever underfloor sections that can be accessed from the boot or rear passenger seating area.

This means that the kits can be reached without needing to fully unpack the boot. Hence, not only luggage and equipment but also items such as a dog box can be comfortably accommodated.
Interior-wise, the new Astra Sports Tourer comes with the fully digital Pure Panel human-machine-interface (HMI) that offers customers a pure and intuitive experience.
Akin to a smartphone, its operation is via an extra-wide touchscreen. Although, other settings such as climate control can still be selected directly via just a few switches.

Moreover, it comes with the new generation of multimedia infotainment systems that can be connected through wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto via compatible smartphones.
Also, a head-up display can be ordered as an option, so that the driver's focus can always remain on the road.
Other than that, developed in-house, the front seats of the new Astra Sports Tourer are certified by Aktion Gesunder Rücken e.V., Campaign for Healthier Backs (AGR).

These ultra-ergonomic seats are the best the compact class has to offer, featuring a wide range of optional adjustments.
Namely, depending on the trim level, it ranges from electro-pneumatic lumbar support to adjustable side bolsters.
Enveloped in Nappa leather, the seats also come with ventilation and massage for the driver and front passenger, and heating for the front and outer rear seats.

Last but not least, being a car of today, it features numerous state-of-the-art assistance systems to aid the driving experience, which are standard equipment in every version.
E.g., front collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, traffic sign recognition, pedestrian and drowsiness detection, and cruise control with intelligent speed limiter.
All in all, aside from the now on sale model, a battery-electric version of the new Astra Sports Tourer will complete the drive portfolio of the compact class bestseller in the course of 2023.
