Revamped Retro-Modern PONY Revealed, Now Featured in South Korea!
Hyundai Motor Company has revealed the Heritage Series PONY, a retro-modern reconstruction of the original mass-produced PONY model that heralded the dawn of Korea’s automotive industry more than 45 years ago.
It was featured at the Hyundai Motorstudio Busan in South Korea as part of its ‘Reflections in Motion’ exhibition, from April 8 until June 27. It also combined distinctive legacy design that features modern touches to offer a glimpse of the future.
“The Pony was an icon of personal mobility created by Hyundai during its mass production from 1975 to 1990. The hatchback car was the nation’s first mass-produced and exported vehicle, said legendary automobile designer Giorgetto Giugiaro.
Later after 45 years, the timeless value of the original Pony is visible in the new Heritage Series Pony. It was shown as part of the ‘Heritage Series - Pony’ section of the ‘Reflections in Motion’ exhibition.
For the exterior features, it has matte, shimmering surface of silver throughout the front to rear part of the vehicle and it has hatchback silhouette. It also included camera-based, fender-mounted mirrors to the fore of the windshield. Apart from that, it has pixelated round LED headlights and U-shaped LED tail lights. These LED lights embody the company’s ‘Pixel Road Trip’ design that was utilized in the IONIQ 5 and 45 concept cars.
As for the interior features, it has premium material doors, a modern lighting system, a speed-gauging instrument panel. The overall design was made of light vacuum tubes and has stylish retro design elements. Apart from that, it has digital touch transmission, cradle space for mobile phone and voice-activated steering wheel.
In the trunk space, there is a last-mile mobility device with a stainless steel case installed and it was representing Hyundai Motor’s human-centered design commitment.
Meanwhile at Hyundai Motorstudio Busan, the ‘Reflections in Motion’ exhibition invites visitors to explore and reflect on the interactive relationships of time, design, technology and styling with various featured installations. Hyundai Motor’s vision centered on enabling ‘Progress for Humanity’.
