KLIA Aerotrain Stalls After Downpour Causes Drainage Pump Malfunction
The Aerotrain service at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) was temporarily suspended this morning after heavy rain led to water accumulating inside its tunnel.
According to Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB), the incident occurred around 11AM when one of the tunnel’s drainage pumps failed to activate automatically during the downpour.
MAHB explained that the drainage system is equipped with pumps specifically designed to handle water ingress during bad weather. Unfortunately, a technical fault meant one of the pumps didn’t kick in, resulting in water building up on the tracks. As a safety precaution, train services were halted while technical teams worked to manually clear the water.
Service resumed at 12.15PM after engineers gave the green light, confirming the tracks were safe. During the downtime, shuttle buses continued running between the main terminal and the satellite terminal to keep passenger movement smooth and uninterrupted.
MAHB said the faulty pump is currently being repaired to prevent similar issues in the future. They also assured that the Aerotrain is now operating as normal, with technical teams keeping a close eye on the system to address any hiccups promptly.
This morning’s glitch follows a separate, more unusual incident on Wednesday, when a passenger allegedly held a train door open too long, causing it to become stuck. That issue was quickly resolved and did not affect the service.
Let’s just hope this “fine-tuning” period is indeed part of the early teething phase—and not something passengers should get too used to.
