2022 Will Be A Victorious Year For Honda Malaysia As It Is Ready To Reclaim Its Number One Position In The Non-National Segment

Honda Malaysia is gearing up to regain its leadership position as the largest carmaker in the Non-National Segment by introducing at least three new models this year.

Since the company had just launched its very promising model, Honda City Hatchback, the carmaker has plans to introduce the latest 11th generation Honda Civic, Honda BR-V and HR-V. Caricarz is confident that the target is achievable with these exciting models in the line!

The latest Honda Civic is expected to launch early this year, while the remaining two models will launch in June and September. However, due to the uncertainty of the pandemic, the schedule may defer.

With the new product line-ups, Honda Malaysia will rise even stronger this year and reclaim its position and remain relevant, thus making Honda’s competition with other carmakers even more intense.

Previously, Honda Malaysia recorded a decline by 52 percent from May to July 2021 of their car sales due to the Movement Restriction Order (MCO) imposed by the government of Malaysia.

During the three months, the company sold about 5,700 units compared to almost 12,000 units in the same period last year when the country was under Conditional MCO and Rehabilitation MCO.

Recently, Honda Malaysia Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Madoka Chujo, during the launch of the Hatchback City Model at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Center (MITEC), Kuala Lumpur, revealed that Honda Malaysia suffered a sales loss of 40 percent from its target figure of 80,000 units.

Honda representatives who chaired the press conference reiterated the same statement that sales of Honda vehicles were declining due to full movement restrictions and chip shortage problems.

When asked about the latest official sales figures, the Honda representative said, for now, there are no official figures to share.

Only Honda Malaysia hopes that 2022 will be more stable, especially after the extension of Sales and Service tax exemption until next June by the government of Malaysia.

Apart from Honda Malaysia, most automotive companies had been badly affected as Malaysia recorded new vehicle sales of 58,742 units in November 2021.

This figure shows a decline from month to month for the first time after four months of recording double-digit growth.

Meanwhile, the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) said the total industry volume (TIV) declined 7.5 per cent from 63,489 units sold in October 2021.

This is due to the global chips shortage that has greatly affected the production of certain brands.
