McMurtry Speirling Broke The Goodwood Hill Climb, Sets New Record Time At Festival Of Speed
The Goodwood Festival Of Speed recently witnessed a number of automotive spectacles, but stealing the spotlight was McMurtry Automotive, with its Speirling breaking the time record up the hill climb.
Driven by Max Chilton, a former Formula 1 and IndyCar driver, the McMurtry Speirling completed the 1.9 km run in 39.081 seconds, beating the previous official record by over two seconds.
Seen during the record run, this fairly small electric monster maneuvers up the narrow passages of the hill without any hesitation whatsoever.
With next to no deceleration, the Speirling bends the tight corners swiftly, going faster and faster until it crosses the finish line clocking a considerable amount of speed.
Built to destroy track records, this e-monster features two electric motors driving the rear wheels, and powering those motors is a 60-kWh battery.
Weighing in at just under 907 kg, the Speirling is said to have approximately one horsepower for every 0.99 kg of weight.
Boosting nearly 1,000 hp, it can go from 0 to 300 km/h (186.4 mph) in just 9 seconds. Whereas, the 0 to 100 km/h time is less than 1.5 seconds, with a top speed of 241 km/h (150 mph).
Notably, the latter is capped due to the transmission setup used for the run. Normally, the top speed is over 322 km/h (200 mph).
Despite all of those impressive figures, its specialty lies with its fan-powered active downforce system that can generate over 1,995 kg of downforce, even at a standstill.
That said, the previous record was 39.9 seconds, set by Romain Dumas in 2019, driving the 670 hp Volkswagen ID.R time attack special.
