Premiering Its Latest Iteration At Goodwood FoS, Lanzante Returns With The McLaren P1 Spider

At the recent Goodwood Festival Of Speed, British motorsport and engineering firm, Lanzante, presented its latest iteration of the limited-edition McLaren P1 Spider.
Although the McLaren P1 has been out of production for many years, the company is actively continuing to build new versions of the plug-in hybrid hypercar from existing donor cars.

The P1 Spider is the latest in a long line of P1 spinoffs from Lanzante. Outstandingly, the previous roll outs were the P1 LM, P1 GT Longtail and P1 GTR-18, all based on the P1 GTR.
First off, to ensure the P1 Spider’s modifications didn’t jeopardize the contours of the car, Lanzante has called in Paul Howse, who worked on the P1 coupe, to oversee the process.

Boldly, the design hailed the removal of the roof. Resulting it to have a removable roof panel, instead of a retractable roof.
Eliminating it also meant deleting the central snorkel air intake, which according to the company, required an engineering workaround.

On top of that, the redesigned P1 Spider also receives new buttresses, housing air intakes that channel air into the turbochargers.
Then, it gets some nips to its front fenders, doors, and engine cover, along with a reengineered lower chassis to maintain structural rigidity without the roof.

Elsewhere, to protect the interior, Lanzante reupholstered everything in UV-resistant leather and SuperFabric, with satin carbon-fiber trim and gloss-black switchgear.
Performance-wise, the stock McLaren P1 Spider’s mill remains. Specifically, a twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter V8, with an electric motor. Producing a combined 903 hp and 900 Nm of torque.
That said, Lanzante plans to build only five P1 Spiders, each from an existing donor car. Delivery of the first car is expected before the end of the year.
