One Of The Rarest Muscles Of All Time, A 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 429, Headed For Auction

Barrett-Jackson is at it again, auctioning off another example of an automotive marvel. This time it’s one of the rarest muscles out there, a fully restored 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 429.
The ‘Stang up for sale at the auction house’s annual Las Vegas sales event happening later this week is not just for show, as it harbours one hell of an engine to back its formidable presence.

Peeking under its hood, lurking is a growling 7.0-litre V8, married to the original four-speed manual transmission that gallops with 370 hp and 610 Nm of torque.
Although its ticker was fully restored, efforts were taken to keep all the parts that made it special in the first place. For instance, the KKX spindles, rear sway bar and trunk-mounted battery.

Elsewhere, the hide of this Mustang Boss 429 comes in Royal Maroon, which is one of the five colours the model was originally available in.
As for its contours. It is more sculpted than other versions of the fastback from that year, and is clearly portrayed by its massive colour-matching hood scoop.

Diving into its belly, akin to every other Mustang Boss 429 and also courtesy of the head-to-toe restoration, the interior is finished entirely in black, which looks brand new.
That said, this particular Mustang is being sold without reserve and the house hasn’t placed an estimate on it as of yet. But considering its state, it should go for at least six figures.

Barrett-Jackson’s chairman and chief executive officer, Craig Jackson, expressed, “Over the years, Ford and Shelby Mustangs have enjoyed a steady track record of stability and value among collectors worldwide. But the popularity among collectors is not just about the value of these vehicles, they are also incredibly fun to drive or proudly show at a Concours or during a local cars and coffee show.”

On that note, with all the talk of keeping it original, a brief history of the beast is required. Initially, Ford introduced the performance-built Mustang Boss 429 variant in 1969.
It was bred out of the need to homologate the 429 semi-hemispherical engine the automaker was using in its NASCAR racers.

Thanks to its track-focused engine, it was a major hit with aficionados, but unfortunately would only be in production for two years.
During that time, Ford built just 1,359 examples, making it one of the rarest and most coveted Mustangs to date.
